Morons who cut holes in their cargo bed to stick exhaust pipes through.
Agreed! This is the #1 stupidest mod anyone can make to their truck. And when they drive around, they see people pointing and laughing, and they don't understand why.

unless of coarse you work in an environment where having a muffler under the truck will very likely cause a grass fire that will burn your truck to a crispy critter when you park it with a red hot exhaust.
there is a very big difference between a 3 inch pipe and a 12 inch diameter 36 inch long muffler. the pipe will be cool to the touch in under 3 minutes. the muffler will still burn skin off your hand 1/2 hour after shut off.
Yea, but the pipe running from the manifold to Your stack is exactly the same.
Prolly sits lower than an OEM. In 35 years of driving, I've NEVER heard of an exhaust causing a fire after You parked.
that is how i got the Dana 60 that is under my 88 superduty.
i warned the guy about parking his stock F350 in the field, but he did not listen. 45 minutes later, there was nothing left of his truck. lucky for me, i was parked up wind and far enough away from him the fire did not spread to my truck.
my pipes are all tucked up tight higher than the frame except for the 4 inches that are rite under the frame.
My main problem with stacks in the bed is that I've seen people get a nasty burn from grabbing the hot pipe by mistake, usually someone who's not familiar with the truck and doesn't realize that the sucker is hot...like a kid.
Guess I'm here to defend stacks, I like the way they look on a select few trucks. They look awesome on older stepside trucks, the Dodge Little Red Express comes to mind. They also look pretty good on newer Diesel rigs, I'm not talking about completely stock 2wd grandpa truck but rather lifted, modded, rigs.

A buddy of mine from work has an 03 Dodge 2500 with a built to the hilt Cummins, sitting on 35s with about 8 inches of lift, of course with stacks. I can't recall ever seeing anyone laugh when their doors are blown off by a 11 second truck that weighs close to 8000 pounds. He jokingly says the stacks are a courtesy to those driving near him. When he had a single 5 inch pipe exiting behind the tire it would puke the diesel smog into the window of the vehicle next to him, when it was duals out the back it would throw smoke all over who ever was behind him. With the stacks now it just throws the smoke straight up in the air.
The same can be said for modded Diesel owners who pull trailers frequently, like many of the do. Instead of throwing smoke all over the side[s] of your trailer with stacks you throw the smoke up and over.

A major pet peeve of mine is people who lean on my truck, if it were to burn of them bozos in self defense then that's just fine with me. Same goes with kids, there's plenty of things on any vehicle that could potential burn/hurt/injure a child. People need to use common sense and not let there kids play on or around vehicles.
this one, not so much,
there is a guy that runs around morgan with about an 08 duramax that has stacks like these, but that they are 8" he brought it into the dealership cause the regen light was on to burn off the particulates, we lifted it up and he had replaced the exhaust from the downpipe to his stacks with 4" schedule 40 that looked like it sat in the ground for a couple years, then wondered why the warrenty wouldn't cover it...
keep in mind that the trucks that are pushing over 1000hp run big exhaust all the way back, most all of the stacks that you see reduce down to 3-5"
and i agree that they have a time and a purpose, i think they look good when done tastefully with a flatbed. but how different is running huge stacks from a honda with 3" of pipe under the bumper?
