No Craig they're mountain lions. Lots of wildlife along the river, though cat sightings are usually on the east end closer to the mountains.
That doesn't surprise me. I know they are in this area. I haven't heard of them this close in, but I have been out of the Lion hunting loop for a few years now.
If they become a problem the State Wildlife use to get guys like the guy I use to hunt with to come in & try to tree them with dogs so they could remove them. Pete was a Rancher in Fernley. I don't know what the State does these days. Back in the day we use to hunt with a Government Trapper from Eureka. He grew up in Fernley, we would camp at his ranch in Eureka. Lion hunting was interesting. They are so hard to track & so fast. If your 5 minutes behind a lion they can be 5 miles away.
