So Craig, you are saying that one should not recharge their 134A system, only by a qualified tech? Crap, I've doing my daughters for awhile now.
No Russ, that isn't what I said. What I said is R134a & 404, 404b & the other synthetic freons are a very dangerous chemical according to Dupont who holds the patient on all these new freons. When they leak out there are several chemical components that make up R134A & these components can separate. When they separate Weird things can happen. R134a is a highly cancerous chemical. But all this has been covered up. I have tried to find a copy of the memo that was put out in the beginning that I saw & read & it is nowhere to be found.
I know three refrigeration techs that have died of cancer in there late 40s.
So go for it. I have no stake in who does what. I just know I won't fool with it. without the proper equipment. I value what life I have left & I'm not looking to shorten anymore than it is. I have a few years left but not that many.
I graduated from San Mateo Refrigeration school in the early 1970s, & have worked on two stage refrigeration units that went to -100 degrees. They were used to test rocket motors in extreme temps for the DOD. So I have a little knowledge of what I say.
Craig
Perfect camping weather....((sigh)). It better be warm enough for water toys by the 4th, we have a week at the lake planned.
Good Evening Everyone.
Yea I'm with you Michelle. In fact that was when we first meet in person was last 4th. Wow a year has past.
I was talking with the Manager of Auto Zone yesterday about what I posted here concerning synthetic freons. I got some interesting info from him on Synthetic Oils. Basically the schools he attends have brought up similar issues with synthetic oils & getting them on you that they can absorb through the skin long term affects are unknown, but being toxic is known.
He was one of the first non refrigeration guys I have met that had heard some of the things I posted here about the new freons. That is when he told me about the oils.
I only post this as information for you guys & gals to think about. I'm not the freon/oil police. I'm retired & don't need to work or want to work other than on my own projects & hobbies. If you want to bathe in the stuff I could care less.
