As for the car thing, I NEED to be in a truck. I had a Mustang. It was fun, but I was too tall for it. I have my 68 Firebird, which is still big enough for me to drive. As for a new truck, I could not even see myself driving one, let alone a new MBZ or BMW. Too complicated.
As for the brakes, what about a disc brake conversion?
Well I prefer 4 wheel drum brakes. There is more braking surface on drum vs. disc. The only major issue with drums is brake fade, which can be taken care of by cross drilling the drums.
I am in a cruising club and have been in a few incidents with deer and such when cruising where I had to stop suddenly and the guys behind me had to swerve around me because they couldn't stop that fast, and they have 4 wheel disc. Of course there are many factors that can contribute to me stopping well and they can't. I have noticed that cars with the same brake type all around tend to stop better than the disc/drum combo.
Maybe I'm just weird, I just prefer drums, I find the adjustments are easier and they are easier to work on. I've had rotors warp on me, but never a drum. To each their own.
In the Falcon I'm building I'm putting the wagon rear end in, with the wagon brakes, and wagon leaf springs. With the wagon brakes in the rear the brakes are the same all around and should be plenty fine to stop the car and I most likely won't have brake fade with the oversized brakes as the car only weighs 2450 pounds, which is roughly 400 pounds lighter than the wagon. I also don't want to do anything to the car that can't be easily undone, and I don't feel that a $2000 brake system is going to stop any better than what I'm putting together for under $200. But that is just me.
I do prefer Big land yachts myself, so you say why the Falcon, they actually are very roomy inside despite their small size. Plus I want to build a killer inline 6 car. And my dad is a Falcon fanatic so I can get many things for it pretty cheap.
I can't see myself driving anything new. Too much crap to go wrong. Yeah, newer vehicles can make ridiculous power, but they don't get that much better mpg than some of the older stuff. Part of that is because all the extra stuff added to the newer vehicles. Stuff = weight.
