IMPORTANT: CPS PHANTOM CODE INFO
1876736C91 International OE (deep blue/black colour) cost 29 bucks
at Harbour Freight International parts dept.
Local Ford dealer did not have the part in stock (must be too many grey ones to get rid of first) however said he could order it in and cost would be 67 bucks!
I did go in for the recall about a year ago and they put in the grey CPS according to this thread the so called-- POS-- CPS part number 1876735C91
I have to admit it may be just a placebo effect but after the new part was installed the idle at park did seem smoother and there seems to be an increase in low end torque. The main reason Iintalled it though is to see if it will cure my wierd intermittment no start issue, we'll see...
Furthermore the parts guy at international said he hadn't been made aware of any issues with the old part (be he's not a mechanic) however he noticed that the computer only shows the new part 36C91 and sure enough they were no old Grey 35C91 on the shelf.
I didn't bother to ask the Ford guy about becuase if there is a known issue I'm sure deny deny deny, would be the order of the day.
I can detect no difference in idle, fuel consumption, or performance between the old black CPS (1825899C99 / F7TZ-12K073-AB) and this one. If the dark blue version of this unit is even better, that would be great.

So I'm assuming you never went in for recall and so never had the light grey sensor installed?
Side note for everyone: International refers to the part as a Transmitter, I think this is a better description
The dark grey unit has no blue to it, and it appears that Ford and International have updated at least the color of the plastic they make these out of. I just want to let people know that the OBS unit is working well for me. I had no problems with the black unit, and didn't want to let Ford replace it with the light grey problem child.
I'm thinking of installing a black NAPA unit that I have and then taking it in for the recall if Ford starts installing one that works well.

I honestly think they purposely have one sensor every new vehicle generation that's enginereed to fail so they can keep raking in money long term. You figure how many 7.3 owners times $ 20/ $ 25 bucks a piece per new sensor keeps Fords pockets well lined. It's like your kids and Playstation--there's always the latest game they gotta have long after the console was purchased.
