Dang-son. Mine is 4 minutes away. Lowe's is like 8 minutes, Wal-Mart 3.5, beer, smokes, and gas 3 min. whiskey 4, Sutherland's ( another lumber yard ) 12 min. Other stuff under 10 mins.: Albertsons, 3 haircut joints, 3 dollar stores, the post office, city hall, the police station, fire station, 3 parks, Northern Tool and Supply, 3 mexican food restaurants, Sonic, Chili's,..... wait a minute , lets just say about 25 resteraunts, I got O'Reilly's and Autozone 4 minutes away, Pep Boys in under 10. 3 car-washes, a butt-load of mechanic shops, an upholstery shop, an air conditioning compressor manufacturer, and a pattern shop in less than 4. The lake is less than 5 minutes away, I can walk to the end of my block and climb the fence and I'm at the National Guard. I can sit on my front porch and see Lockheed, drive 3 minutes to get a look at the runway to Carswell and maybe spot the shuttle piggy-backed on a C-10. I watch the air shows in my backyard.
Downtown Ft. Worth is 15 minutes away. How many points of interest there and a long the way? Hell, How about Billy Bob's Texas?
I could go on for a while yet. I guess I truly am Blessed with where I live.
All this civilization minutes away, but I have a continuous family of possums that frequent my back yard. I occasionally get armadillos wandering around. White tail deer run up and down a creek bed 2 blocks away. I am always seeing owls and hawks in my backyard. I have caught 2 speckled Kingsnakes, have running population of Texas rat snakes, have disposed of 2 yellow bellied water snakes and re-located 5 blotched water snakes.
Now- where in the Heck are you? I thought even deep in the heart of Appalacia, you had a Home Depot closer than 40 miles. Crimmeny- they're like Starbucks, they're everywhere. I have 3 within 10 mins. of my house.

Okay, I stand corrected, there is a Home Depot closer than 40 miles. Corsicana ain't that far away. Shoot, I was there just a few weeks ago on a little weekend trip.

I'll be glad when I finally get that carb FINISHED so I can get my truck going again. Before I put it on though, I'm going to buy a little see-through fuel filter and put it in-line before the carb-mounted filter, so I can see if there's any crud coming from the tank that could clog up my freshly-rebuilt carb.

Awesome! How's it compare to your previous PS pump? And what kind of pump were you running before?

It's not worth it right now; because of its unknown history combined with your
descriptions of the errors and issues, it's best to start over.

I recommend NTFS, regardless of any other considerations.

Read this:
File Systems Unravelled: FAT16, FAT32, NTFS

It's 4 pages long but gives general, high-level overview of the FAT/FAT16
/FAT32/NTFS file systems.

How big are you thinking? A machine of that vintage (almost a century old in
dog years) is gonna have limitations that, by today's standards, are laughable.

Trouble is, I'm not sure what the hard drive upper limit on that machine is!

- What revision level is the BIOS? It should say somewhere on the splash screen
(before the machine is booted) it'll be something like A06 (A09 is the most
recent for that box).

- Do you know if the processor is socketed or slotted (it'll be one or the other).

Even with that info, there's still more info I'm gonna want... what is the Service
Tag number? That should be on a sticker on the back.

Just out of curiosity, do you know the machine's memory configuration? i.e. the
machine has 64MB RAM in two 32MB sticks, or whatever. Even just the total
memory size would be a bit useful.

I feel bad now, i had 3 30gig hard drives that I just got rid of...

I would have sent them to you :/

I work on a lot of computers though, i'll let you know when I get a hold of a new one. Maybe some more RAM also, you could use at least 128mb

That's what I figured and why I am thinking about starting over, Thanks for the validation.

Yeah- I'm say big a$$ compared to what it has now. I'm not trying to make a super computer out of this - just a decent back-up.

I'll look for it the next time I boot it and let you know, or maybe the next time, or the time after that . That stuff scrolls by pretty quick to the untrained eye.

no.

IDK what you're asking for. The key says:
Microsoft* Windows NT* Wkstn 4.0 1-2 CPU
the product ID# is20200-OEM-001472-33814
then there is a bar code and under that: 00021-014-783-814
then another bar code and after that 0977HN.
The sticker on the back has 2 bar codes with this in betweenG3S101.

Nope- I told you I'm computer illiterate. I'm not stupid or unwilling to learn, just highly ignorant.

Yeah, I am pretty lost with file streams and nanos and and gigs and bios and stuff. As for the pump, it sounded like I had an angry chihuahua under the hood, and trying to bleed the system did not help. It got worse after the hydroboost conversion. I found a pump to actually work with the hydroboost. Now I can actually hear the engine and the assist is even better.

One of the best mods I did.

This is the one I was after.

You can click a checkbox to disable smilies when posting, it'll keep those
graphics from appearing when you're trying to type text.

I found it's colon-the-letter-capital-D that produces that green thing.

As an aside, that box came with NT4 on it, that'd mean you could install XP
using an Upgrade license *overwriting the existing installation*; I don't know if
that Product ID will work to activate a non-upgrade variant of XP (installed on
an empty hard drive), I kinda doubt it (but it might).

Your box came with 128MB RAM (in a single DIMM) and a 7.5GB, 5400 RPM
Western Digital IDE hard drive. Still haven't found the max capacity, though.

It seems you can have a max of 512MB RAM using two 256MB PC100
non-ECC SDRAM DIMMs.

Your box is a tower, right? Not a horizontal desktop akin to a toaster oven,
correct?

Just like our trucks, though, just because something came outta the factory
configured in such-n-such way doesn't mean it's still that way. But, it shouldn't
really matter. Lemme see what else I can find....

Yes- But just like everything else in life, to get the best results, it helps to be on level ground.
