Waiting for the UPS man to get here, I ordered a part for my computer from Newegg.com and it's supposed to get here today.
So about 4 months ago I got half of my teeth pulled out (a Cancer treatment side effect) and the Oral Surgeon had me do 20 Hyperbariatric treatments, (10 before, 10 after), because she said that the amount of radiation I had (690 rads) was pretty high and had probably done damage to the nerve and blood supply to my jaw.
SO- I've done pretty well healing up- EXCEPT- for the back 2 molars that were pulled. The jawbone is still exposed and I've had these big lumps in my cheeks develop and it's pretty painful. BTW- Every other tooth I have needs work. So- non-Cancer related, I think I've developed arthritis in both shoulders, painfull and a real PITA for a guy who makes his living doing physical work.
So-Going from private sector care to public- I remember the oral surgeon warning me that the public health care system was made up of student doctors. They do have qualified MD's that supervise them.
Well I was wondering why for the last few months- every time I told them about a medical problem I had, they would nod and write it down in their notes. Then...................................????? WTF? No help whatsoever.
After dealing with the new Onocologist today- Same Ol' Sheet- It occurred to me that their main concern was dealing with the diagnosis and covering the bases on PAPER- so they could get a grade!
Now I'm wondering - since he gave me the ol' see ya in six months- we'll do a Pet-Scan then., does that mean he thinks I'm OK- or I'll be dead, but that will be after his mid-terms?
. Yeah- I think that the whole health care system sucks- but I think the political one and the economy does more- and I'd rather just be back where I was a couple of years ago buying my own outrageously priced insurance, than looking at Churches for groceries!Oh well- I still got my truck.....can't be all that bad. And what about the day today!!!!!! Life is GOOD!

I guess what I am trying to say is they are supervised by a certified Dr. and they really can't tell you anything for fear of messing up. I was in the Louisiana public healthcare system and I would never think of going anywhere else now.

They probably would be doing more if they had an active Cancer to deal with. I thank the Lord that before treatment I was covered under Blue Cross / Blue Shield.
It's more that everything else that 's wrong with you seems to fall through the cracks.
While I'm sure that everyone else reading this would be happy to know their Cancer is in remission, let's just take that out of the equation, and how many people would feel that good about being in pain, with a potentionaly serious medical condition, if their primary care giver was focused on something that's basically a non-issue, and ignoring a very real problem?
Put it this way- if you broke an ankle, and went to see a doc, and he said- well basically you have no signs of mental retardation, as a matter of fact, your brain scans are clear, so we see no signs of brain damage related to your fall at all......
UH- Doc ... what about my ankle... uh hum- could be broken..... Writes down in notes..... I want to see you in 2 weeks....... WTF?
Thank you.
I know exactly how you feel, and, when you tell them you have pain it's on a scale of 1-10 where does your pain fall? That has to be one of the most stupid questions they can ask. The sad part is you have to wait for so long to see a Dr.
I know when the co. I was working for dropped our ins. they didn't even tell us. It was a small co and they kept taking out $ for it but no coverage. I was so glad that I hadn't worked for cash like so many of my friends and had paid medi care all of those years. Medi care took care of all my care from day 1.
Don't get me wrong- I was blessed to have good insurance when I was first diagnosed with the Cancer, and I think it saved my life. I had a team of about 10 doctors that all concurred that all I needed was radiation to treat my Cancer. I asked the Chemo doc if he thought I should do Chemo- he said yes-so I signed up for a little more torture. ( You only get one chance at this crap...) Anyway- I don't think that would have been an option in the public health care system.
And the doctors I had were the best of the best IMO- my Chemo Oncologist/Hemotologist had many years of "best of" awards in his office followed by so many articles on his prowess that it was obvious he was tops in his field. I felt my Radiologist was as well. I had some uninvolved professionals in the business speak highly of them both and I consulted quite a few and not only did they all know them but they all said they were the top in their field. But with the downturn in the economy, coupled with the fact that the cost of the insurance became unaffordable- I'm now at the mercy of the public system.
I was down to about $.050 so I decided to try and bum a beer or two from the loser next door. He oblidged, but I had to take him to the store to do it, ( and I'm sure he'll want me to do that MANY times in the future).
Anyway- He just invited himself over a little while ago and is parked in front of the big screen now..... Oh- Well, we all pay for our sins. I guess I've got to go watch some football and entertain his drunk ***.
Can't be much worse than that Friday night party- NO unclaimed women, and the cops showed up and shut us down. I might have been on the verge of being too blasted to play anyway, but I sure was tearing it up until then. Funny thing is - the cops told the host that if he went downtown and drew a $5 permit - we could play until 3:00 am as loud as we wanted and if any paticular neighbor complained more than once - they could be subject to a $1500 fine! So he's saying payback is coming......
I kinda wished I hadn't taken advantage of the free beer as much as I had come Saturday morning , though..... Good thing is- depite being threatened with getting my keys taken a way- I made it home alive.... What's that Billy Joel says ?- "I guess that only proves that you're insane."
Anyway- I'm going to break some more doctors orders- Peace Out.
On the other hand I've had three sugeries thru them, one gallbladder removal, one fix a dislocated/broken ankle sugery, and more recently laser eye surgery which was a trial program, I went from 20/200 to 20/12.5 in both eyes. I think that is great, but I was warned that it might get worse after a year or so.
It is too bad they can't use the military health care system as a template for the public one. Perscriptions are anywhere from 3-12 dolllars a bottle; they tell the health care providers that accept them this is how much we will pay you.
IMO, everything medical is jacked up in price to rake everyone over the coals because everyone nees health care. You can't tell me it is just to cover malpractice insurance.
The real problem is capitolism (Not democracy/communist crap) but the sheer desire for making yourself rich at the expense of everyone else. (Including the false malpractice-suit numbskulls)
Without the burden of the high price of insurance and the restraints of the fear of bogus lawsuits- the average health care provider could operate much cheaper and that would mean less cost for all of us.
As for military medicine being a model for the public system, let me remind you that the military operates on a huge budget of taxpayer money and while it may seem great on your end there is a hidden cost to the rest of us that you are ignoring.
As far as capitalism- who are you blaming for the high cost? I certainly hope it's not the doctors, they may seem to make a bunch of money to someone on the outside- but keep in mind that they have 12 years (on average) of schooling to pay for and that they put in insane amounts of hours training and many are on call 24 hrs. a day even after establishing a practice.
If it's the insurance companies, remember their ASSets are on the line when paying out catastrophic claims. Yes, they make money, but again, that's the American way, and all in all provide a reasonable product for the outlay invested. I owe my life to having good insurance, and with the medical care I have had to have, the insurance company payed out WAY more than I ever paid in.
So- I don't think Capitalism is the problem, it's more like Socialism, and it's only going to get worse under the current administration. The current private system works for most people. While everyone is jumping up and down about health care, the automotive insurance industry actually can be compared pretty closely to the health.
The average person pays out more in auto insurance premiums than they will ever claim. The excess they pay funds the claims the company has to pay out for catastrophic incidents that cost more than the policyholder has payed in. (That and the interest they make off the huge money pool they hold). Same with health insurance- EXCEPT no one is denied health care, and excepting medical malpractice- no one is ever really found at fault and responsible for medical treatment. Illegal aliens are entitled to free health care? No one fines you or takes your license away for not having health insurance. How much more do you think car insurance would cost if the same thing applied?
