Murphy's Law

Well Murphy's Law struck yesterday. I have been carefully storing the front windshield for the truck all these years. I took it out of hiding, 'cause it was in my way, and left it near a stack of truck doors. (I bet you guys know what happened next). Yep! a gust of wind blew my doors down onto my winshield. Now I've gotta add a new windshield to the build!

I took delivery of the spare tire door from 76camperspecial. Props to '76 for getting the part to me up her in Canada from California in one week. Decent price. I took it in the A$$ for shipping, but I expected that. '76 had nothing to do with the shipping cost, it was just what usps charged.

You're welcome. I blame customs for the late delivery.
I wish you & grinnergetter would have gotten my name right, that's '76, not '73.
Not a big deal though. If anyone has any of the driverside Ranger-XLT bottom aluminum trim for the SCS box, let me know.

FINALLY! I am getting my cab seal, door felt, cowl lace tomorrow. Production has been a little backed up on the scs while these parts have been on their way.

While it's not the best way, I've decided to go with hockey puck cab mounts 'cause the shipping & customs on a mounting bushing & hardware kit was going to be astronomical.

Back at it

Well,

I got stalled (again) for a while. BUT I'm back at it hittin' it hard. painted the other door and the door hinges. I have finally got a little more confidence with mixing the paint so it will lay out flat. Thanks to many of the FTE contributions in the Autopainting thread. Very useful info there.

I also decided to reinforce the cab mounting tabs on the frame. On closer inspection the metal on them was thin. The driver's side tab was rotten through. I managed to get some thick black metal over sized washers at Strathcon Industries in Courtenay.

I am planning to get the cab back on the frame in about a week. I have set aside a few days that I managed to get off from work to mount the frame, and install the windows & seals.

Hey Hardcase, was there an earthquake up your way recently? Glad to see more progress on your truck.

Bet you can't wait to get that cab back on.

I didn't feel the quake. The epicentre was a few hundred miles north of where I live.

The cab is on

I got the cab back on my truck. Started building the cab/ front clip... and I broke the windshield while I was putting the rubber seal on it. Grrr ***** trucker!!!

I placed the cab back on the chassis using a method devised by Pete at Southwest Rod & Custom. I did it with myself and my wife spotting for me as I wheeled the thing out of the garage/tent shelter I have been working in.

Here's a link to the video. It's pretty cool. Be warned my friend Pete likes to swear a little.

Here is a picture of the Cab. It was snowing today while I was putting the doors back on. I still have some alignment issues to work out with the doors.

Great job so far, you giving me motivation to get more done to my '79.

I would advise against hockey puck mounts, they last for a while but tend to fall apart after a while, I've seen quite a few people use them for body lifts.

How much are you looking at for a new mount set? I bought a new set of Poly cab mount and rad support mounts. They're from a company called Prothane. I live in New Brunswick and they were only $80 shipped to my door and they came out of the states.

hmmm. I think the mounts and the metal j-washer thingeys were going to cost me about $500.00 after shipping, duty, tax, and brokerage fees. I checked this out with a few places and gave up. Did you also get the metal j-washer inserts for your prothane mounts?

No they didnt come with any of the washers, fortunately all my cab mount washers were in good shape and came apart easily. not so much for the rad support mounts. But I don't think it would be too hard to fab something up for them.
