Have you thought of running your switch into a metal electrical box with a metal block off plate? You could use some allen head screws in place of the phillips screws.

If you put a bumper on your truck you will not be able to use your liftgate.

I'm gonna see if I can get a switch into the cab, or under the hood somewhere, the bumper Idea is for the front.
The chrome is too messed up, faded and cracking, for me to want to attempt to do anything other than sand it, paint it and forget all about it

Check these out:

http://www.jegs.com/p/JEGS/JEGS-125A...45298/10002/-1

http://www.jegs.com/p/JEGS/JEGS-300A...16943/10002/-1

They're for disconnecting batteries from the electrical systems of race cars, but as long as your tommy gate doesn't pull more amperage than one of these switches is rated for, you could just put one of those somewhere out of sight (under your dash, for example), and turn it to off when you park somewhere you think someone will try to mess with your truck.

You might sign up for Jegs catalogs, they're loaded with all sorts of automotive goodies.

Thanks!
I was actually browsing through Jegs earlier today, I do like that switch.

I don't know what kind of amps my tommy gate is pulling, but I will find that out later tonight

I don't know anything about these Tommy-gate things but I assume they have some sort of
low-amperage switch which operates a relay or solenoid which applies power to the motor,
just like a column-mounted ignition switch applies power to the starter solenoid. Could you
not add a small, inline switch to the existing low-amperage circuit, which would require your
addon switch (mounted in the cab or in some other, hidden location) to be closed (aka
"turned on") for the Tommy's switch to do anything?

I have an idea... my father's old Boss 302 Mustang had a burglar alarm, it needed to be set
(activated) via a switch which required a round key.

I'll take some pictures of the internal workings of the gate tomorrow. This is my first time working with one of these, so I also know nothing about them. I can not find a proper Diagram either, which is hindering my ability to do this!

Tomorrow though, I'll have some pictures.
