ive been told the v10 will outpull any diesel ever made because it has more horsepower. well, my 5.4 has more horsepower than my 7.3 and its laughable to even mention the two in the same sentence. even though one guy in the superduty forum told me his 5.4 would outpull any stock 7.3 because it had more horsepower...... none of them seem to understand that horsepower is a made up number and that torque is what is good for towing.

ive also been told that the v10 is better than the 460 and 7.3 because it has more cylinders. ok, yes, it has more cylinders but its also a smaller engine cubic inch wise. which means that to be a smaller engine and have more cylinders it has to have a smaller bore and stroke. neither of which is good for towing.
It does get old doesn't it! I'm sure the V10 has its place, but it won't ever be under the hood of anything I own.

I love my OBS, but I do like superduties as well. Both got their pros and cons in my opinion.
And although everyone here is bashing the v10, I'll be the first to say I like it. I would rather tow with my 7.3, but all in all, I like the v10.
Sure it aint the same as a 460, but the V10 is on good terms with me.

What the he**'s wrong with heated seats? I added one to my truck, and it's the best $80 I've spent in a long time.

Just to give the SD some love, how about the granny gear in the ZF-6, or the 4 wheel disc anti-lock brakes?

My dad and I both pull my 32 foot race car trailer with our trucks. My 97 and his 03. I can't stand driving his truck with the trailer back there. It wants to move around more and isn't near as powerful(v10). Mine just handles much better with a trailer on it. My truck ain't tuned up either, just 6637 intake; still stock downpipe and exhaust. Mine only has 140000 on it and runs perfect. I put 5-6000 a year on is all so I should be able to drive it till I dont know, 2050!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i agree with you here, my dad's EX doesn't handle nearly as well with a trailer as my truck does, but i guess that could be because my CC LB is longer than his EX... and plus having all my performance goodies and running more than twice the power he is really makes a difference!! and being able to do that stuff without removing the cab is nice

Nothing wrong with heated seats I will submit. Don't need them myself. I have plenty of heat my self.

But granny gear is for.....well....granny! And I have 4 wheel disc brakes for about 1 months payment of a new truck. And I hate ABS. Learn to regulate your foot pressure and ABS is a crutch for brainless drivers. Not saying your brainless if your vehicle has ABS cause mine does. Just that is one of things mandated cause there are stupid people that drive the roads.

OBS for the win! SD for Second place....

Hmm. Not the first time I've been accused of being brainless. Can we at least call it a grandpa gear so I feel better?

Actually, if you want to tow a heavy load from a stop, up a hill, the granny gear is hard to beat if you don't like to slip the clutch. Can't go more than about 3 MPH with it, but you can pull 3 buildings down by just letting the peddle out.

4 wheel ABS is nice unless you decide to hit the brakes while going over bumps. If the road is really rough, you might as well have a set of Flinstone brakes.

a 6.8 liter v-8 is not as efficient as a 6.8 liter v-10. thats where that statement comes from. too much science to try and explain in one post but basicly the smaller pistons allow for more complete combustion then the larger ones;if that makes any sesne.

Tj, what the heck kind of truck payment are you comparing to? to get your truck in a superduty would cost 55-60 grand and the disc brakes cost 3-400 bucks tops to build your own kit!!!!

Alright grandpa gear it is. I suppose it would be nice towing very heavy. And you don't have to use it empty.

I just can never get used to the idea of having half the engine stuck up under the dashboard on a Super Duty!
OBS is best now and forever more!

i understand the efficiency part of it, but when it comes to me getting my trailer up a hill im not really concerned with how efficiently my engine is burning fuel lol. theres a reason why all your big diesels and even the cummins 5.9's are inline 6's. they have bigger pistons, bigger stroke and better low end torque than a v8 of the same or even bigger displacement. and when you go to a v10 of the same displacement you compound that difference even more. smaller pistons+ smaller stroke=very high rpms to make any power. thats why the cummins makes peak torque at 1400 rpm, our 7.3(and the 7.5) at 2k and the v10 at well over 3k.

ZF6 low gear is a bit taller then the zf5's 1st gear.
I'd rather have the zf6, but I like lots of gears! I'd have an 8 speed if i could. useless, but i'd have it.

As for the v10. I know 2 people who are happy with theirs. One is a Michigan member. and another is a ford family who bought it when it first came out. They have a stickshift with theirs. Basically theirs is a burn out in any gear you want at any speed. haha. They pull a big 5th wheel motorhome with it. They say you cannot feel it behind ya. Theirs is a crew cab as well. As for John, i have no idea. But he says he rarely seen v10's coming into the shop when he was working at the ford dealership.
I love the 460, but the one I drove was a bit sluggish, but you could tell all the power was still there. That truck had gone though hell in back. Though ditches all smashed up to over top of other cars. I'm supprized it hadn't done a back flip. 97 250 4x4 460 with auto. That was one badass truck. Dad wishes he woulda kept it.
Probably had 3.55 or .. 3.83 gears? (i forgot the one between 4.10's)

As for vent windows. Shoot that ***** who dissed them.
It pisses me off so much that they got rid of vent windows!!!!!!! I cannot stand newer style windows, the obs style trucks, hell you can leave your window half way down while its raining and maybe 2 or 3 drops of water will hit the seat. Dont do that with any newer style truck where there is no window brow.
And what the heck is with people putting the plastic brows on OBS trucks? They dont need them! Quit wasting your money, jeez!!!! It already has 2, doesn't need a 3rd to rattle and get knocked off by a branch.

I will say though, I love the looks of the 7.3L SD's. The door gets me the most. Just that little knotch cut by the mirrior gives it appeal. The interrior isn't to bad. But I love my OBS better. I wish they would have never put the lights and wipers on the turn signal though.

in the gas engines the zf5 and the zf6 low gear are almost identical, the difference is the diesel. there is a decent sized difference in the diesel zf5 and the zf6, but to be honest with you i think the low in the zf6 is way too low for a diesel. especially for those of us with 4.10's. so it would pretty much be a useless gear. my 7.3 does great with the 5 speed, but the 6 speed would definitely help my 5.4. its like i have low, 1st and a half, 2nd and a half, 4th and then 5th. too wide of a ratio between 3rd and 4th. so its either about wound out in 3rd or lugging in 4th.
