the only reason his tq would be that low is if he was using a 4k rpm program but i don't think edge has one of those

if he only had 330 hp then that means he had a redline of about 1750 rpm. how you figure hp is to multiply tq by rpm and then divide it by 5252. so his equation would be (980tq x 1750rpm)/5252=327hp. if my buddy was making 800 tq and had a redline of 3k that would put him in the neighborhood of 450 hp. (800tq x 3000rpm)/5252=456hp.

if his tranny broke at 1700rpm and he shut it off on the dyno then those numbers would be correct. but if he turned it the full 3k rpm with even 700 tq he would be pushing 400hp. (700tq x 3000rpm)/5252=400hp. ive seen guys put their truck on the dyno and shut it off as soon as they hit peak torque. that way they can figure their hp number on their own without having to run their truck wide open and risk breaking something. so its possible he did that too.

for the amount of tq he was putting to the ground those hp numbers are waaaaay too low. we have a big rig international wrecker with a cummins in it and it makes 400hp and 1250tq, but it redlines at around 1700 rpm. a stock 6.4 only makes 650tq but makes 350hp. im not saying you didnt see the dyno or that the numbers are wrong, just that he cant have those numbers unless he didnt turn over 1800rpm.

i just checked this months and here is a quote from an article about a different cummins.

"With the help of his employees at PDI, he did exactly that when they transformed the stock 5.9-liter Cummins into a monster inline-six that produces 1,028-horsepower and 2,050 lb-ft of torque."

with an estimated redline of 2600 rpm those numbers sound more in line with what they should be. (2050tq x 2600rpm)/5252=1014hp. either way, its quitting time for me and im heading to the house lol.

phillips you have this a little confused, a normal cummins makes peak torque at around 1800-1900 rpm and falls off pretty quickly after that, so the peak hp would NOT be at 3k rpms, more like 2600 which let's say (700 x 2600)/5252 = 346, the peak torque on a cummins makes that hp at that rpm would probably be around 850+ ft lbs, if peak torque is around 1800-1900rpm, it's not unreasonable for it to fall off by ~150 ft lbs before it hits 2600, and it'll keep dropping a lot before 3k rpm without the right programming, so the peak hp should be about half the torque at that same rpm, but will still be around 2/5 of the peak torque which was much earlier on the rpm band

i talked to the guy with the truck yesterday and his exact numbers were 435hp and 775lbs of torque. he said he had nothing but an edge programmer and 5" exhaust. it was a 2005 model too. hp was a little lower than i thought he told me, but that was on the dyno and at the rear wheels. either way, not too bad for nothing but a programmer.

the torque still seems low, did they dyno it in OD? i would think they must've to get that low of torque numbers with that high of hp, my truck is right about where his is hp-wise, once i get it dynoed i'll let you know on my torque, hp, rpm, etc etc

it sounds about right to me, at least compared to other engines. the 6.4 has 350hp and 650tq. which is a .54 hp to tq ratio. 350/650=.54. our 7.3's are 225/425=.53. his is 435/775=.56. let us know how your dyno run turns out.
