But you can count me in the camp that would like an 8 speed also. I consider the 6 speed a granny plus 5. That said, the jump between 2-3, & 4-5 is too big when towing a trailer. Stick a gear between each one of those, and throw in a double overdrive when empty and I'd be happy. I guess that really makes me want a 9 speed then.
I wonder what you guys would do in Iowa. There wasn't one day in January that it got above freezing....
I hear the state borders are open. I'd move South. Don't get me wrong. I've been in cold weather before. Even stuck on top of a mountain once with no cold weather gear when a blizzard moved in, but I was much younger then. In case you haven't picked up on it yet, I can't stand cold weather. If I lived in Iowa, I'd move. Many of you would move North from Texas due to the summer heat, but to each his own.
anyway,
all this fun aside, as for the obs vs. sd, i feel whatever makes you happy. i saw a guy in a friggin suit get out of a dirty obs diesel the other day. it was awesome!!! whatever truck you own and love is the best one in my opinion. i absolutely love my 97 and plan on owning it forever. i will never buy a superduty on principal. i can't upset francine(my truck). but i am sure there are many people who have superduty's that will own them and love them for a long long time.
I couldn't agree more. The OBS is definitely a head turner when they are all "dressed up" rolling down the super slate. I like to compare the OBS to a 359 Pete or an old W900A. Nothing but class.
I don't know about you guys, but I definitely have a sense of pride driving an OBS down the road. Gotta love the square front.
I've had this 1989 F-250 4x4 460 EFI Z5, for twenty years. She still looks and hauls good. However I've never topped 12-13 mpg empty and that only once. 8 mpg is standard loaded and working.
I just bought my SD, and still have my twenty year old 460 w/117,000 on the clock. Good ole Red, she has mighty fine wing windows. Now is this what you folks are calling an OBS? What does "OBS" stand for?
When hauling a heavy load, That tall gear is nice.
Even in a PSD.
The ZF5's first gear in a gasser was way to tall IMO.
First is useless unless hauling..
the zf5 gassers first gear is a 5.72 and the zf6's low gear is a 5.79. so if the zf5's 1st was way too tall then the zf6 would be even worse. the zf5 in the diesel has a more usable 4.14 first gear. tall enough to get a huge load moving on a hill, but not so tall that you cant do over 3 mph with it.
the zf5 in the gasser has a 2.94 2nd, 1.26 3rd, 1.0 4th and .76 5th. the diesel is 2.37 2nd, 1.42 3rd, 1.0 4th and .76 5th. where i have my biggest problem with my 5.4 is that jump from 2nd to 3rd. its like pulling out with a non granny first gear and going almost straight to 4th gear. 3rd should have been about a 1.50 or 1.60 instead of a 1.26 if you ask me.
I can't believe our little brothers are disking our SD trucks.
we arent dissing the SD. the thread was started as a playful jab at someone recommending one of members "upgrade" to a SD. if we thought the SD was an upgrade over our truck then chances are we would have already traded for one a long time ago. but its a thread started all in good clean fun. however, your "little brother" comment may bring out our nasty side haha.
Wouldnt the sd technically be the obs' little brother seeing as it is newer and thus younger? My friend has an '04 f-250 and he hates it when i call it my trucks little brother.
OD is getting tired in my truck, but a PSD would probably have not much issues with a 2nd OD at .6x
Somebody on here has an overdrive unit, i think its Cody. We should ask him what his final drive equals out to be.
I believe that the e4od ends up with a shorter od gear without the od unit.
Me or that girly man Chase who has to switch to t-shirts when it hits a balmy 45 deg? I just roll all 4 windows down and it cools off to 100 pretty quick.
Gotta say I love my A/C but I'm not above using the 2-60 A/C either.

How can you have a nasty side if you own a 7.3. Don't feel bad, I call the 6.0 and the 6.4 our little red headed step brothers.
