For a job like that I would use my L-35 Kubota
Dig the trench, haul the rock and do the grading. One machine to move
Yea, but TLBs suck IMO.
If you're doing more than a couple hundred feet of trench it's faster to haul in a mini ex.
With most little TLBs like that you have to get off the rear seat and go to the front seat to move the machine. I know the Deere 110 TLBs have a creep feature on them, but I still don't really like TLBs. They do 2 things, but they don't do either terribly well.
Plus it irritates the heck out of me to have just a swing boom rather than having the whole house swing on the turntable like a mini ex.
Plus with a mini ex you can have the swing boom and turn table so you can really get in tight to a building or anything like that with minimal disturbance.
A tractor or skid will still never grade quite as nicely as a dozer will. They just aren't quite the same. With a dozer you have a 6 way blade. With a skid you really only have 2 way unless you get a blade on it and then it's only 4 way unless you've got a real custom setup.
Edit for Brent's last couple posts:
If I had to sit behind a desk all day I'd go nuts. I know I can't have a desk job. Engineering appealed to me because with civil engineering you don't spend a ton of time at your desk.
Here's how I see things playing out though:
The baby boomers are most of the operators out there. Whether they like it or not there will come a day when they will no longer be able to work. There are not enough qualified replacement operators out there right now. Not many people in my age group are willing to do this kind of work. Operators will be at a premium and they'll get paid as such.
That's just my theory though.
Either way it's getting late here on the east coast and I am going to be spending some time with the rotary mower tomorrow and drowsy operator + rotary mower = bad bad things.

I guess a lot of that depends on the ability of the operator,I didn't start last week
Hey Pete, this is what happens when you let your friends drink BEFORE you back-fill. Somehow he was convinced that bare feet compact the dirt better than shoed feet. I have some brilliant friends
Ya know Nolan Im not sure, the only pic I have with a number says b-150....
Still, looks pretty funny with 2 dudes riding it... ugh, that sounded terrible...

I thought it looked like a B series and looks like a 3 point hoe. That would explain two people to run it
My L-35 only has one seat
