When I was growing up we used to have anywhere between 25 -50 chickens at all times.
We would slaughter the roosters for food and keep the three largest and most dominant roosters to sire the next generation.
Mom bought a flat of Great Whites and Rhode Island Reds to get started and they grew up fast.
We had eggs coming out our ears and plenty of the best chicken meat you could ever eat.
So sweet and tender.
When I was 16 I got in trouble with my parents because I ate the whole chicken before anyone could have any themselves. Got my butt chewed on that one, LOL.
Now I get stuffed if I eat a drumstick and a thigh.
