I haven't even started work in earnest yet. By the time I'm eligible to retire you'll have to be 85 to retire.
It's never too early to plan for it. only a fool leaves it up to Uncle Sam for his retirement plans. A 401k or IRA are great plans...heck any plan were you have funds coming in that aren't coming from the SSN folks is an outstanding idea. That's why I railroad...the RRB is not connected to SSN in anyway shape or form and it will be a snowy day at the Panama Canal before that changes.
Ed is not answering Pm's Pete. he must be out on a hot date with a heavy woman.
It is a Saturday so just keep that in mind in getting an answer from Ed. Definitely answer by Tuesday.
Zack I'm still in highschool. Got another year of that garbage before I can even think about starting a career. Right now my focus is more on girls and toys (truck, quad, snowmobile) than retiring.

I'll pass along something my first boss at Caterpillar told me...your never too young to think about retirement. I never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up when I was in high school...and I chased more skirts than I'd care to admit. But somewhere along the way I settled down in to a married man with two kids and career that provides well for my family. I'm sure you'll figure out what you want to do...just whom ever you work for, try to work for someone that will at least match 50 cent on the dollar for what you put back for your retirement. And put back as much as you can every check. Yeah, it stinks on payday...but when the day comes to retire you'll be set for life.

I've got a pretty good handle on what I want to do as far as a career but I'm not going to say much more than it's a government job.
Wow! What a finish to a race that was 6 hours long. Hated to see a Chebby win...but at least it wasn't that Jeff Gordon clown. Poor ole Johnson got a DNF...that's just tragic.
