Label states 8200 lbs GVWR with 4300 lbs front and 4800 lbs rear axles. I pretty sure this is as stout as you can get a F-150 unless you start adding heavier springs or helpers. But at what point is the engine/transmission taxed to exhaustion (death rattle). Chris
You definitely have a stout truck there (good for you in getting a reg cab for a real working truck)...but my Q was...
What is the payload on the WHITE and YELLOW sticker....NOT the vin tag...NOT the GVW or axle weights, but the PAYLOAD on the STICKER that says "Tire and Loading Information"...this is where the discreps seem to be happening
I just checked the other label and it says not to exceed 2598 lbs total including 3 persons (I guess they figure 200 lbs each as an average) which brings me back to other post where I came up with 2000+ lbs for cargo weight. And I bet that Ford has under rated these capacities for the lawyers. So even after all these calculations, I still have fallen for this little F-150. It may not have the sound of my traded Cummins but it's quick and nimble and can kick A@% when needed. Chris
Thanks, Chris. This shows that Ford makes a SERIOUS F150 if you skip the limo back seat...2598 lbs of load is a FAR cry from 900 lbs...instead of having barely more payload than a Focus, you could almost carry the whole Focus in your bed!
A setup like yours would have no problems with a 7000 lb trailer along with some actual cargo in the bed and a couple big guys in the cab. You, sir, got yerself a real truck there.
I think you guys are getting yourselves worked up a little bit for something rather small guys...and if you don't like the 900 lbs capacity, "downgrade" your rims to the 17 or 18" rims. they can carry more weight
who really carries 4-5 200 lb people in the cab (or 4 250 lb'ers) + 700-800 lbs of trailer hitch weight and 300+ lbs in the bed?

+1 on that Chris! I love reg cab 4x4 trucks, hell I've owned a reg 4x4 Ford since 1984. My next truck will be an Scab. My wife weighed in and said I should get the Screw, we compromised.
I will admit that the prospect of sustained high fuel prices has me very paranoid. I don't need a truck as a daily driver and can't justify spending 3-4 bucks a gallon to get to work and back when a Focus will more than serve that purpose. We'll see what happens between now and a year from now.

honestly...how many do?
and if you do, why are you driving a F-150?
Are you saying that a 900 lb payload, which would be completely taken up with 5 people in the cab, is acceptable for a giant pickup? When a Focus has a payload over 800 lbs? I think the major reason to be upset is that nowhere in the brochure or Internet ordering guides does it say that payload could be as low as 900 lbs.
If you and three buddies want to go camping, hunting, play golf, etc, you're saying that it's OK that their total cargo capacity is 100 lbs? What if the owner of the truck has a 200 lb toolbox permanently in the bed? Then they have to take a 2nd vehicle with their golf clubs?
Since it's clear that an F150 *can* have a payload of 2500+ lbs, as Chris's does, he can certainly drive his F150 with the expectation that it will do work.
It's clear that during the gas price craze of 2008 that the F150 market lost a lot of its "commuter car" buyers who simply want to wear a truck, and Ford has aimed its '09 F150 advertising to truck *users*, not truck *wearers*. 900 lbs is probably adequate for truck *wearers* much of the time....

Do you really think its the rims? I think its an error on the sticker. Why the hell would Ford make the rim be able to handle @ 1/2 the payload the truck would otherwise handle. Can't be. Anyone have an 08 with 20's? What is sticker on that one?

I sometimes carry 4-5 people. If i carried them al the time then i wouldnt have any payload left hat so ever for anything lol. Lucky for me i dont have anyone in my truck when i tow my trailer. It would just be nice to know the reason for the difference in figures they post and figures they have. My bro in law has a exp with 20" rims and same tires but he has a lot higher payload than what i have. It seems that the tires and wheels are not the issue here as the tires can carry way more weight than needed. Even the lariats with the same exact spec as my truck have a 400lb higher payload rateing?? It would be nice to know where the platinum has lost 400lb's of payload. The Ford guy tried to call be back yesterday but i missed the call. Hopefully he has an answer to all this. If Ford worked out the truck for bare minimum then they work out a avg person weight at 180lb. Now to me! a 5 seater truck should be able to hold more than 5 180lb hobits. Thats a pretty small person for the avg size of a US person.
Based onthe Ford towing guide the driver is 150lbs.
Can't be a 20" wheel issus as that fx4 w/18" had a payload of 1082lbs. The other one I looked at also fx4 18"s has one of @ 1382lbs. The lower one had max tow 6.5 box wrangler at/s, the higher 5.5, no max tow and Sr-A's. ?
Why not just get your truck weighed with you and a full tank of gas? Subtract that from your GVWR, and you have your payload. If you happen to get pulled over, the highway patrol would determine if you're overloaded or not by your GVWR and GAWR's, so I would think that knowing your truck's empty weight and figuring how much you can carry from that would be more accurate than going by the tire and load sticker. But, I could be wrong.
