Remote Start questions

Checked into a compustar remote start today.
Few questions for those of you who have been down this road before.

1. Forgot to ask about turning on the heated seats when the vehicle is remote started. Is this a good idea or just a waste as it seems they dont
really heat up anyway unless you butt is on the seat.

2. I have the auto climate control, am I to assume that this will still work correctly. Say I have it set for 70. When the vehicle comes up to temp and reaches the 70, is the fan gonna come on high. Or am I gonna have to set the heat and fan in the "non-auto" mode before I turn off the truck so that when its started in the morning the fan will already be up to speed?

3. Concerning the correct way that they should hook up the wiring. What would be the correct way? They said that they dont use T-taps. But did say they strip back about 3 inches of wiring and shielding and then tightly wrap the wires together. Finishing it with some kind of 3M tape that I dont remember the name of. Said they dont do any soldering as you dont need to.

Thanks

I don't think there are any that turn on the seats....although it would be nice....they do work without you sitting in them....

Auto climate control will work fine...

I'd want them soldered...mine were.....

I know most remote starts come with 1 or 2 accessory wires that you can use to make different things work/come on. Not sure if that would work to make the heated seats come on but it's a question to ask them or take a look at the wiring diagram of the remote start to see if it has accessory wires.

the auto climate control will work just fine.

make sure to set it at the temp/function you want when started prior to turning off the truck the night before.

when you remote start it, nothing will occur until the temp you set is reached, then the blower fan will kick on...it may run on high, but it will level out at a lower speed as cabin temp comes up.

solder or nothing. you will be wiring in a ton of wires that talk to your ignition, pcm, control modules...do you really want one of them coming loose and shorting out something?

also, soldering will help prevent corrosion from building up in the wires you splice into...this will dramatically reduce any chances of a bad connection occuring

Figured that maybe they should be...You guys put a stake in my plans. Shop was close to where I take my truck to the dealer.
If i go with the compustar, Im now left with a 1.5hr drive in either going south to a different state or farther northeast to a different shop.
Im not sure if thats a good move, if I need anything done than ive got a good drive ahead of me.

I've heard of that type of wire tapping. Strip back a few inches of bare wire from both the alarm and vehicle wire. Stick a screwdriver through the middle of the vehicle wire (strands) that you are tapping into, then stick the alarm wire through there and wrap it around the vehicle wire several times real good. Then tape it over real good.

If that shop warrantees their work, then go for it.

The spread the strands and put the wire through method is what some remote start installation instructions actually tell you how to do it. I just installed my Code Alarm CA530 that I got from Travis at KC Autosound wednesday and used that method with soldering them also. I am happy with the unit, and the prewiring and instructions from Travis made it an easy install. It has tha capability to turn on 2 seperate accessories so you could turn on your seats and heated mirrors if you have them.

Well just got off the phone with 2 other shops, both of them said they do not solder.
They said they strip back the coating, shielding, then wrap the wires together and then tape up.
Both had said if they solder and something does go wrong then it makes it harder to
fix the issue, also said if you ever remove it to transfer to a different vehicle that it makes it a mess.
Both of these shops were found as dealers on the companies website.

On another note do you think 1200ft is enough range for a autostart?

The range that the manufactures claim is the max range under optimal conditions, my experience with autostarts is that you can expect the actuall range to be half of what the manufacture claims.
If you get an autostart from Astrostart you have to splice very few wires, if any, they have a wiring harness that plugs into your vehicles existing connectors. I have an Astrostart on my 05 and it took the dealer less than 2 hours to install it, and the most time consuming part was installing the hood pin switch.
The model number for the remote starter I have is 5224, it is a 2 way with a 1 mile range.

Ok so Im down to either a Compustar or a Astrostart.
Essentially they are the only 2 that I will be able to stay somewhat local.
Any other system viper, python etc, will mean driving at least an hour to have it installed.
However the viper I could have installed at bestbuy, (30min trip)but im a little concerned about that thought.
I dont think that driving more than a hour one way is going to be a good idea to have one installed, If i end up with issues it could be a nitemare.

So Astrostart 2524 Démarreur Orbit, démarrage à distance Astroflex
or Compustar model number 2BLEDR http://www.compustar.com/main.htm

I read a article over at Mobileedge where they dont sell the astrostart any longer and have gone to the compustar. Astrostart remote car starter announcement | Mobile Edge Lehighton Mobile Electronics Experts

Compustars say 1500ft
Astrostart are at 2000ft, I think astros have additional button for maybe turning on heated seats, whereas the compustar doesnt.
Ive heard good and bad about both.

Any suggestions?
