REMOTE START QUESTION
REMOTE START QUESTION
First experience with Ford factory remote start. There is a menu in the Vehicle options where you choose Last Setting or Automatic.
Last setting is simple enough, so I assume if I had hi defrost on when last switching off the key, the remote start should give me defrost, but what does automatic do exactly? Should/can this system be programmed to heat up the leather seat? Documentation is not clear. Help appreciated.

I have been experimenting with this the last few weeks since it's been cold. Last setting works great, as long as you remember to set it where you want before you get out. The heated seats do NOT come back on with remote start tho. I have been using auto since I never seem to remember to crank everything up before I shut it off, it has been working great, EXCEPT the heated seats still don't come on (was 16F this morning). With auto I haven't determined exactly what gets turned on, as nothing is lit up when you get in, and as soon as you put the key in and turn it, it goes back to your last settings.
The manual under "remote start" and "instrument cluster" is absolutely deficient of detail on this...so one of you old-time remote start guys, or one of you FORD guys should be able to tell us exactly what the automatic setting is supposed to do? Help!
EMTC (Electronic Manual Temperature Control) System
Remote Start System Behavior - Message Center Set to Auto
For cold ambient air temperatures (below 32°F (0°C)):
- The airflow mode is set to FLOOR/DEFROST if Front Defrost is set to Off in the message center
- The airflow mode is set to DEFROST if Front Defrost is set to Auto in the message center
- The temperature is set to full HOT
- The blower speed is set to HIGH
- The air inlet mode is set to fresh air
- A/C is set to OFF
- The airflow mode is set to the last user setting
- The temperature is set to the last user setting
- The blower speed is set to the last user setting
- The air inlet mode is set to the last user setting
- A/C is set to the last user setting
- The airflow mode is set to MAX A/C
- The temperature is set to full COOL
- The blower speed is set to HIGH
- The air inlet mode is set to RECIRC
- A/C is set to ON
For cold ambient air temperatures as determined by the HVAC module:
- The airflow mode is set to the last user setting if Front Defrost is set to Off in the message center
- The airflow mode is set to DEFROST if Front Defrost is set to Auto in the message center
- The temperature is set to the last user setting
- The blower speed is set to the last user setting
- The air inlet mode is set to the last user setting
- A/C is set to the last user setting
- The airflow mode is set to the last user setting
- The temperature is set to the last user setting
- The blower speed is set to the last user setting
- The air inlet mode is set to the last user setting
- A/C is set to the last user setting
Remote Start System Behavior - Message Center Set to Auto
For cold ambient air temperatures as determined by the HVAC module AUTO mode to request heat:
- The airflow mode is set to AUTO if Front Defrost is set to Off in the message center. (if the HVAC module requests FLOOR in AUTO mode, FLOOR/DEFROST is used in remote start mode)
- The airflow mode is set to DEFROST if Front Defrost is set to Auto in the message center
- The temperature is set to 72°F (22°C)
- The blower speed is set to AUTO
- The air inlet mode is set to AUTO
- A/C is set to AUTO
- The airflow mode is set to AUTO
- The temperature is set to 72°F (22°C)
- The blower speed is set to AUTO
- The air inlet mode is set to AUTO
- A/C is set to AUTO
The customer can select different climate control modes/preferences when the vehicle is started using the remote start feature. This can be accessed through the message center. When the driver seat and/or passenger seat is set to AUTO mode, the driver/passenger heated/climate controlled seat activates in full heat mode when the outside temperature is less than 32°F (0°C) and full cool mode (climate controlled seats only) when outside temperature is greater than 80°F (27°C) any time the vehicle is started using the remote start feature. No heated/climate controlled seat adjustments are recognized during remote start operation. When the ignition is cycled to the ON position after a remote start event, the heated/climate controlled seat switches off.
Remote Start System Behavior - Heated Exterior Mirrors (If Equipped) (EMTC or DATC)
The heated exterior mirror glass operates when the defrost system is activated by the remote start system.
Remote Start System Behavior - Heated Rear Window (If Equipped) (EMTC or DATC)
The customer can select different climate control modes/preferences when the vehicle is started using the remote start feature. When the rear defrost is set to AUTO mode, the rear window defrost activates when the outside temperature is less than 32°F (0°C). Once the ignition is cycled to the ON position, the climate control system returns to the previous settings (last ignition ON cycle) and adjustments can be made normally.
Perfect timing Folks!
My Mrs. announced to me on Tue. night that she would be driving my truck on Wed. (she works at the dealership), I asked her what she needed MY truck for, and she just said "None of your business."
Anyway, at first I thought she needed to haul something, but then on Thursday morning, I got an email asking how my dealer service appointment had gone...HMMMMM???....and asking me to take a customer satisfaction survey..
(clue #1)
This of course lead me to my Ford Owner's Website, where it showed my truck had been serviced on Wed, and the cost. (clue #2) Then when I got into the truck a bit later, it was hard to miss the new receiver mounted behind the rear view mirror. (confirmation)
Guess I'm getting remote start on my truck for Christmas.
Now I just gotta act surprised and keep my mouth shut! Then learn how to use it....Which PowerStroke laid out very nicely for us. (THANKS!)
