Thoughts and Observations

Ok so while sitting down today, I fixed my new toolbox that I bought for my truck. I also ordered the 100 series factory remote start for my truck....Should get here Tuesday. I am pretty excited, now all I have to do is get the up fitter switches, and cab lights and I pretty much have all the options for my truck except the nav stuff, and leather seats. I need to buy some of the wiring components for the heated seats.....Cooled seats I think I might have to give that up unless I buy leather seats from a truck that already had them. You can add them, but damn it takes near 2 hours of talking to 8 or 9 different parts guy who are willing to try and look for whats needed and then me using that part number to find it cheaper.

ANYWAYS, back to my main reason. I bought 3 Ravelcos(The great security system) a long time ago that were/are authentic, just an older version. Well the instructions the guy gives are very generic, etc, etc. Well I emailed ravelco and the customer service person must have accidentally sent me the full instructions because I have them. They are for most makes and models and is a bunch of pages long. Ok, so when I ordered the remote start, I knew I couldn't install the Ravelco on my truck and use the remote start.....Remote start is more important to me since if they really want the truck they will get it.

This is where I started to really think about some crap. How long have these trucks been out??? WHY is there no aftermarket add on to defeat thieves?? I don't care about smashing windows and stuff, that will happen regardless, but it's crazy to think a truck like ours comes with plastic handles. So I spent some time looking around and have come to a stopping point. Jimmi Jammer makes a sweet tailgate lock called "The Gatekeeper", I will call them tomorrow, but it looks like what he makes and sells is only for the one side..I want both. Also Jimmi Jammer makes the steel plates to protect the rods from screwdrivers, etc. Well Thats great and all, but what about the plastic door handles???? One of my buddies has the billet door handles on his truck! But I what I also want is a billet handle for my tailgate as well as the Jimmi Jammer for the tail gate rod.

So If a man buys the billet handles all the way around, Jimmi Jammers for all the rods and the Gate keeper. I could reasonably expect that they would see my truck and want to try to get in and then find out they can't.... Now before you guys say they can just smash the window, sure nothing is gonna stop that unless we use plexiglass windows and even then it just takes them longer. There has to be a solution!!!!! I am gonna order this setup in the next couple of months and report back. What are your guys thoughts?????

P.S. I wish this forum had a chat....

EDIT: I also meant to say that I will be removing all key locks on the truck.... So the only way I can get in is through my key fob. This includes the tail gate handle, that I will install a pop and lock.

On my 12, only the drivers door can take a key. Plus the tailgate.
I have Jimmie jammers on the doors, ANC a hinge lock on the tailgate & a pop-n-lock

I also removed the lock rod on the drivers door

I'm glad to live in an area where the definition of crime is high school kids tagging the bus shed with "Johnny Luvs Suzy"... But I don't just stay in my nice little town either...
The only anti-theft devices I have are:
1) common sense - don't leave valuables visible in an unattended vehicle. Take them with you or hide them well.
2) park in an area where the traffic is heavier and theives will be seen
3) park near a light standard - not so much that the theives can see what they are doing, but that others can see what the thieves are doing.
4) use The Club on the steering wheel. Contrary to many opinions, they really are a deterrent to thieves.

The rest I leave up to my insurance company to settle on.

All that said - I am mildly annoyed that Ford could put a nice high dollar camera in my tailgate, but no auto-locking feature on it and no anti-theft devices..

Think twice about removing the key lock(none of passenger side). A few times now, the fuse powering my door locks has blown(don't know why), and that is the only way to get into the truck. If you blow the fuse you will be calling the cops or AAA to bring the slim jim to open your doors.
