You can condition your body to temperatures (acclimatize) and you can train yourself to sleep like you mentioned. Medical conditions also play a factor. The kind of shape your in, age, general health, rate of metabolism, blood flow, natural core body temperature, etc. Some people are better suited to the cold, others are more suited to the heat. I've been through extremes on both sides of the coin, even after becoming acclimatized, and I can tell you I'm better suited to deal with the heat. The older I get, the less I like the cold.
I agree with this Chris. Some people are just naturally more able to handle the cold, or the heat. Personally I've always been fairly temperature tolerant, whether its hot or cold it has to get really really hot or really really cold for me to be bothered by it. This minus 0 crap is getting old thats for sure.
I'll wear a t-shirt and a light jean jacket when its 35 degrees outside. With this -27 crap with -50 windchill, even my heavy coat only cuts it for a few minutes.
