When I was shopping for trucks, I looked and looked and looked. I was picky too, i wanted white or black, supercab shortbox 4x4, and preferred a late model 7.3. I just about bought a 06 6 liter truck, and it was the same price as my 03 haha.
When I bought mine, trucks were selling like hotcakes, and up here a low mileage 7.3 still sells fast, although not quite as fast as a few years ago.
Regarding skiing and snowboarding, I used to be both. Ive found the worst group of people, young male snowboarders, they wear their shades, and get in everyones way! I also know some boarders that think skiers shouldnt be allowed on the hill, and some skiers that think the same about boarders, but i find that stuff pretty silly!
Pete, getting old isnt bad at all, youd be surprised how easy a guy can get back into shape. Im 29 and i work(ed) in a heavy labour oil field job. I could outwork guys of all ages, and i made sure of it! My one buddy can come pretty close though, hes 21 and he has the same attitude as me, you should see what me and him can get done on a jobsite! Only thing that keeps me ahead of him, is he does not use his brain, oh man the stories i could tell about him!
I actually pride myself on being really hard working, and if someone is working harder, I suck it up and step it up a notch! Yeah Im a little bit competitive that way, which isnt the best quality haha.
Brendan looks like a cool show, neat pictures!
On edit, i paid 26k for my truck, but thats canadian, thats what, 15k american? lol
I know that if I start running again I'll get back into shape pretty quick, but I typically don't push myself to the point of puking like coach pushed us.
Here's another quick picture of some of our iron for ya, Sheldon.
Before anyone says anything yes the tracks are shot and incredibly loose. Yes it's thrown the tracks.
When i work out I dont push myself till I puke either, that can actually hinder your progress instead of help it. Your muscles need some recoupe time!
Thats a neat little cat(or dozer if you prefer that term haha) what model is it? I could use that to level my yard out right now, that would work really slick!
On edit: I hear ya on the truck buying Justin, I could come close to buying an 08 now haha.
Thats a sweet payloader too, I love it! I could gawk at heavy truck and equipment pics all day!
I love heavy equipment operating. I hate it when i get stuck in running the plant though I guess running a 200TPH Ashpalt batch plant counts as heavy equipment. I hope to be on the road crew next season though.
I payed 18K OTD with my truck I have now with a 128K on her and I found one last week same thing just a LB with a 150K on it for 12K OBO. But if I didn't get a 7.3L PSD I would have an 03.5-05 Cummins.
Will the rookie who stuffed the machine full of dirt please raise his hand? <- Closest thing I could find to a hand-raising smiley.
The hydraulic motor that runs the fines conveyor had broken without me noticing. I kept feeding the machine and all that dirt at the end built up under the drum.
We pulled the drum out and had to hand shovel all the dirt at the end of the machine out by hand. Keep in mind it was probably 90 degrees outside that day. That's probably a good yard or two sitting at the end of the screen there.
Here's a shot of the business end as it's running.

The dozer's a 1997 Dresser TD7H. We put a new Cummins into it not long ago. We've also got that guy's big brother the TD25G hangin around. He's photo shy though.
Hey, JD would you wanna trade loaders? You can see mine behind the pile in my first picture of the screen. I think running the old iron with triple sticks helps you become a better operator instead of sitting inside a cab with joysticks all the time.

I know how you feel man, we have a crusher on site that we crush broken up asphalt to process into RAP (Recycled Asphalt Product) and if you don't get them broke up enough you clog it and have FUN! I have spent many times digging it out with a back hoe or trackhoe.

They gave us a little cat D4 once to push up Pea Gravel one day when we had 1000tons comming in after they sold our old D6 dozer lets just say we left the D4 after we played and went back to the loader.

Not to be mean, but I hope that's not your finished grade.
I really do object to renting iron to individuals. I think hydraulic licenses like Massachusetts has should be mandatory nation wide. I've seen too many people rent machines they have no business operating get into tight situations. It's a miracle we don't see more deaths per year from it.
I've always said this and I hold to it. Anyone can drive equipment. Being an operator takes skill.
Pete- ummm no, thats not finished grade, just the only pic I had of the machine. I've been running backhoes and dozers and Ex's and pretty much anything else since I was about 12, so I am more than qualified to run it. As far as renting the toys, I love the photo wall at the rental yard....Nothing but flipped upside down and stuck machines....I am surprised there arent more deaths either. They dont even ask if you can run the machines here, just drop them curbside with keys and hit the road...very scary...

I've been asked if I can run such and such piece of equipment. I always say "I can run it, don't know if I can operate it" Usually gets me a dirty look.
Rental places need to have a testing yard to see if these people can operate the equipment! I have seen many people just total out rentals. You should see the dump trucks destroyed at work last year its amazing what a power line can do to them.
