Thanks for the compliments Abe. Now all I have to do is build the dang thing. I do have most of the parts though. I have to admit, I don't know anything about the '53 Ford Ranger.
That name is just something I cooked up on the spur of the moment. I'll have to think up a better name for it.
Later Man...
Dave, there never was a '53 Ford Ranger, but if there were I think it would have looked like your mock up. The Ranger was made in 48 and up to (I think) 50. Somebody on here has pictures in their gallery of one. Or do a search of Ford Rangers. There is a parts supplier in the North East that has one, His company is called Chuck's Trucks.

[quote=2many56s;6915937]The darkside, is a cult of cootie-bobbers who's mission is to rid a ford truck of its identity(chop tops, shaved doors, tilt hoods) and remove its soul(swap engines and suspensions.)
Yep, I'm a member of the cult. Guess I never thought of myself as a cootie-bobber, but I have done all of those things described above to my truck and I loved every minute of it. I'm a fabricator at heart and I like the look of the 53-56 trucks. So I got my hands on a 55 some years ago and the rest is history. I've changed everything but the rear frame and some parts of the cab.
If you're not having fun with your truck, what's the point?
darksider...54 f100 with a heidts MII, 9", 351W/aod,GM style Mallory HEI with Accel coil, GM one-wire alternator, junkyard bowtie column and seat, reprofiled drip rail, filled seams, custom pearl metallic copper paint( Fiftyfourd Orange), over 2000 LEDs, 56 taillights, tri-bar headlights, custom front bumper(30s bumper horns with a cut down 30s bumper, forget the exact years)
love the darkside, appreciate Stock but to me its just another truck if you dont personalize it.
Fiftyfourdf100 ,really did a good job on your truck .The color ia sharp. Spring is almost here and soon you'll be rollin down that highway. My truck is still at the paint shop, says he wants to get it done by the end of the month. Believe it when I see it. His weeks turn into months. Ayear and seven months now and still not back yet. I have all my parts waiting to go in at least. Ordering my vintage air kit in two more weeks. Keep it safe and watch out for the other guybecause he ain't watching . We're just acouple of cornfields away . Keep on Truckin!

Looking back through this thread, you have to wonder what has happened with some of the people that posted. A few quick checks show no activity in a few years. Projects sold.....lost interest.....or gone on to a better place?

Unfortunately, That's not just a part of the Darkside world. There are a lot of gray and original projects that die a slow, miserable death as well.
In my opinion, that's why it's best for a first timer to get a truck they can drive around while doing little things to it to get the fever. Then again, some people do well just diving in.
Mine isn't dead yet! Just on hold while I work my a** off. But only two more months and then back to the truck after almost a year! The good thing about having some time away is that I have been on here and seen some great things that many have done. Gives me some great directions to go for.

I fully agree on buying a running truck and keep it running while you're working on it. The "fun factor" is much better when you can drive it and work on it. Most of my past projects didn't die a miserable death, instead someone else wanted them more than I did........read that as in $$$$$$. Heck... even the 20 plus year build I have now has nearly gone to a new home due to some nice offers, but my wife, daughter, and grandson have made some pretty intimidating threats to my health if I were to sell it.
ok, I'll post too.
