48 F1 will stay stock. 49 F1 will be modified. Haven't made my mind up on my F5. Putting chevy parts on any of my FORDS just isn't going to happen. I've been the local Ford fanatic for so long I wouldn't be able to live it down!!!
The darkside, is a cult of cootie-bobbers who's mission is to rid a ford truck of its identity(chop tops, shaved doors, tilt hoods) and remove its soul(swap engines and suspensions.)
The stock side is truly where its at. The trucks on the stock side don't have to deal with the consequences of their owners sick mind in 10 years when the trucks modifications look dated. Stock trucks are timeless. Most stockers appreciate fuel injection, disc brakes, tilt wheels, and leather seats, we just save lots of time and money and purchase new vehicles for those amenities.
All is not lost with out darkside brothern, they provide many unwanted parts, and often save trucks to far gone to be stock ever again.
I represent that comment....I think the term cootie-bobber as you relate it to the Darkside is a little harsh. Most of the Darkside stuff I've seen on here is far from being cootie-bobbed and takes a lot of imagination, skill and tallent (my work not included).
At any rate being a Darksider at least "We have COOKIES"

I'm planning on being a quasi-dark-sider, or is it a semi-dark-sider. I'm planning on a Mustang II front suspension, 9 inch rear, and a 302 Ford engine.

Definitely dark on my side of the road. I like it that way.
While I can truly appreciate the timelessness of the stock truck, I always wanted a hot rod. I could have rodded anything, but, IMHO, the 56 F100 is to trucks what the deuce is to roadsters.
I'm not trying to offend anyone. I'm just being the bad boy I always wanted to be. If I had enough hair to grease and comb straight back, I would. But rolling up a cigarette pack in the sleeve of my T-shirt will just have to do.

Ditto on that!! I admit to liking a viper engine in a stock 56 is cool, and a 5-10,000 dollar paint jobs are pretty.....but too many of you guys know what I mean when you see projects chopped up and forgotten.
If the truck remained near useable -many would be saved.
For me---I may build a 302 or 351--but never amputate the body like some do....yuck!!!
If it looks stock -I like it....Bill
My 49, Willard, has been dark since before 1962 with the installation of a 56 Buick nailhead sometime between 1956 and 1962 (no records available prior to 1962). I have restored and owned a number of originals (and still do). However Willard will stay dark, just a little darker.
Oh no! I knew about the darkside, but never thought it captured so many. I will never give in to the darkside! This headcount makes me even more determined to stay stock!! Someone must preserve history!
It all depends on your definition of beauty and it might depend on the history and condition of your truck. You guys know my history fo it was a no-brainer. Also, I think staying stock is cheaper and easier....
No offense, but I don't think I could agree with that statement, I can restomod one much cheaper than a restoration, and a rat rod can be built with whatever you have laying around
OK, I've ben watching this since it started and jumping in every once in a while. I have come to notice that so far not one Darksider has criticized the purists. On the other hand, the purists have used almost every posting they have made to complain about and criticize what we Darksiders do. Go figure...
