My preference is for stock, but practicality will be my choice most of the time. I only clicked on this link to see what your count might be up to with the number of pages you had used up. I must admit, it made for interesting reading but there dosen't seem to be much agreement. But, that really isn't needed is it? The whole point is to have fun with your stuff and to have fun talking about it. It is good to hear strong veiwpoints, it's that kind of rugged individualism that made our country great!!
I guess compared to the rest of society, the majority of the folks on this site are darksiders! You know what I mean, folks that stick to a job, even have a job in the first place or had one enough years so they don't need one now, daring to dream their own dreams and being patient enough to wait for a finished project as opposed to the immediate gratification crowd. I could go on but I believe you people get my drift. I believe this is a great group to be associated with!!!
Don’t you just hate it when someone comes along making sense?

Naw, I don't mind. After all, we all need a reference point every once in a while.

I must admit when I started this tread I didn,t expect this amount of response. One thing great about working on our old Fords we all can do it which ever way we want. To be honest the trucks done original are some great looking trucks. I myself I prefer something with the disc brakes and a lot of updates. I must admit I do lean toward a all Ford build, but then again this is my first build and I do have a ways to go.
I have come to the conclusion that " Darkside Dave" should be the President of the Darkside. Dave may not be the darkest out there but he sure has some great post to read.

Hi Jack,
You do me great honor... Seriously, you got me laughing on that one. Presiding over nonsense is my strong suite. I am also president of our local King Of The Hill neighborhood garage meeting. I was elected in absentia and informed by phone while I was visiting my son 600 miles from home. I accused them of doing it then because I wasn't there to defend myself.

I was on the phone talking to my son when I read your post. He is also an FTE member and I was telling him about your post. He got a kick out of it too. He said it didn't surprise him a bit. It was really kind of funny that I found your post at that particular time because we were discussing an idea I had today which is really Darkside. Upon relating my latest idea for a true Darkside creation, he asked if I was on drugs and if so I should share. it was right after that when I saw your post and told him about it. He responded by saying "See." I think he's looking forward to putting me in a home of some sort.

Thanks for the fun Jack.

Later Man...

Jack,
A true Darksider never takes anything very seriously. You can tell by some of the crap we come up with. Sometimes I like to fake serious just to see the reaction.

Dave,

YOUR TALKING TO YOURSELF AGAIN!

See what power does to people.

The minute we elect him "King of the Darkside", he spazzes out!

Tee hee forgive me, I'm having my postflight Holiday Dinner....A bottle of red wine and with an open box of See's candy as hor's de urves! Yum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy New Year Uncle Dave!!!!!!!

Julie!

PS. Yep this has been pretty mellow for this kind of post. I think only the Holiday Spirit got the "Councilman" past his Chevy vs Ford engine comment. I can only rebut with seven words: "Carrol Shelby's Four Twenty Seven Cobra Jet!"

"dear ol Dad"

Gray Baskerville had it right when he said ...."anybody can restore a truck, but show me someone that can cut it up and put it back together and...now we're talkn'...(words to that effect)"

I like both the stockers and the rods--I've got a little of both, and what I do is probably what many do, and that is when I drag the new project home its like a stone sculpture who looks at the big pretty rock he's going to use to "create" something.

I look at a truck for quite a while and try to assess what its got and what I can do with it. If it doesn't have a drive train--and sometimes for instance there is no motor tranny etc, its more likely that I won't try to "make it orginal". And if its got a lot of missing "stock" trim and interior and gauges etc I might be less inclined to try and replace "everything to OEM". If there were just a few things missing maybe I'd got the OEM etc. So it depends.

My most recent truck is a 58F100 that I dragged home and everything was gone except the overall appearance of what it once was. So I modified everything, but it still has an OEM overall appearace with the OEM cab and glass etc, but its a tilt steel front, back halfed car with coil overs,a custom bed floor with big wheel tubs,no bumpers, some grill areas slightly modified for improved appearance(in my opinion), some little drag racing buck seats, a big Blue oval 460/C6 with overdrive, and a 9inch rear with big oversized axles, and its difinitely a "darkside" truck.

And at the same time I've seen some really nice factory original 57's and 58's that I like too, but I like this kinda mod, and when I start with stuff that is so badly damaged I feel I'm saving it from the crusher--no one else wanted this truck. The dark side is the "green" side. We recyle and use what's available and save something with history from being discarded. I like that. Plus we do get to be more "creative" and some people enjoy that. So I try to live and let live. And I should clarify that I've never taken a "nice" OEM and cut it up. I've never had a nice OEM except my 92 Ranger that I bought new and is totally stock except for some bolt on slapper bars gas shocks and the like.

Good luck Tom
