I think our school had a little more lax policy, but the football coach had a tougher policy specifically for the team. We had very few guys who ever actually had to sit out a game, maybe 2 guys a year for only a game, and nobody ever had to miss practice. Our coach was very disciplined with everything from academics to practice and game play. We had a pretty good team too. I think our regular season record for my 3 years (sophomore-senior) was 25-5, with my junior year being the best at 9-1.
Our coach was like that too, if anyone had a problem with their grades he knew about it and had the kid bring it up before it ever became big problem.
What did you play in high school? The three years I was on varsity we had a similar record of 24-6 in the regualr season, we were also 9-1 my junior year too. How did you guys do in the playoffs?

We had one a my school and she was tyhe best in the county for her weight....and wasnt bad looking either. She quit after her sophmore year beacause no one wanted to wrestle her, they said it was because its wasnt right for guys and girls to be touching each other like that or somthing like that, but everyone knew it was because she was damn good and the parents of the other schools didnt want their kid losing to a girl.

There have been a few posts like that, I imagine its all spam...
I played baseball all the way to high school and anything lower than a 2.75 GPA got you time on the pine. That went for most sports - except the football guys, they always seemed to catch a break.

How unfortunate. Just goes to show, we've got a long way to go on fairness and equality.
In college, it was easy to see that the football players had it easy. They oftentimes got themselves excluded from tests, papers, or large assignments. We had one big linebacker, Lavell Mann, who would always come into the Liberal Arts main office, where I worked as a workstudy. He'd bring me his papers and beg me to correct them for him. The school made it easier for them to get good grades, so that grades were never an issue.
All the while there were people like me, with two jobs, working 40 hours a week. In my major I had to keep a 3.2 GPA or I was kicked out of that particular college.

We never caught one at my school, county policy was to keep a 2.0 but our coach made sure we all did our best on the field and off. Some kids couldnt do better than a 2.0 but we had alot of players with over 4.0 weighted GPAs.

Yea our school was fighting for the girl to stay on the team but she just didnt want to deal with it so she quit..
Our coach used to coach in college and he was saying they had a class called "football math" where they went over the numbering system for the plays that they used and adding up variouse TD's, field goals and such. Football brings in too much money for the schools to let their big players not play...
I worked during the season as much as I could and still kept about a 3.0...after that my grades slipted since I skipped a little more than the normal kid...

I can't blame her. She just wanted to be a teenager and go to school and play a sport, not be put square in the middle of ideological warfare. Sometimes you have to pick your battles.
You, skip class? I'm having a hard time believing that...

I was an offensive lineman, the center. I also did the long snaps. It was odd to have a center as small as me (5' 10", 165 lbs -- coach listed me at 185), but I never had a problem with it. I was very very quick and never let the defensive guys get a step on me and learned how to control them. Plus, my legs are quite strong, so I'd just hit them low and drive away with my legs. Man, they hated that. Defensive guys couldn't stand that here they are 6' something and 200+ pounds being controlled by this scrawny little center.
What sucks about the playoffs is we only went my sophomore year, and made it 2 games past the regular season. The other two years, both our conference and district titles hinged on one game, which we ended up losing, so that was it for us. It sucked bad my junior year when we were 9-1, but had nothing to show for it. No conference or district championships, no playoffs, nothing. Both years we lost it to a school that we honestly shouldn't have even been playing, and the year after I graduated the whole district and conference was restructured and that team wasn't in either one of my hometown's anymore. Oh well.

Working our butts off here. Eleven days with no oilwell drill production and the rigs are super hungry right now. We have a huge backlog to work through. Seven day work weeks until further notice. So glad I got promoted when I did. I have weekends off now.
Starting to get one of those hurricane colds I think.
I hardly ever came off the feild during football, I played both offensive tackle and defensive tackle every game. I was the next to the biggest kid on our team at 6' and 240 and at that time had a some speed. The biggest guy on our team was 6' 4" and 290, he played nose guard. He was great for filling in the gap, but just didnt have enough speed to rush the backfield. Freshman year we went 12-1, 2nd place in state, sophmore year 13-0 state champs, junior year( the year my football career ended) 12-1 2nd in state. I was chop blocked in the state championship of my junior year and blew out both my knees, had many SEC schools watching me during that game and was going to play college ball, but the Doc said my knees would never be 100% again.
Man I miss those glory days.......
Nice to hear from you Scott. Willis starting to show signs of returning to normal?
What is a hurricane cold?
Thanks, Lisa. Parts of town are normal, others not so much. Still a lot of areas without power. The grocery stores are betting better but still have a lot of bare aisles.
Supposedly, after a hurricane there are lots of outbreaks of colds. Not sure how true that is but, Susan has been sick since last week and I have a few guys out, all with bad cold symptoms. Also have two guys out with food poisoning today. Eating food that wasn't properly taken care of during power outages is super risky. We threw all of ours away and started over.
