Ok so i got the disc brakes all set up. Pulled the gears out of another 14b and got the yoke off. Pinion and bearings are still good and tight. Problem lies in the carrier and ring gear. the bearings on it are pitted on one 1 side. Must have been how it was sitting. and about 6 teeth on the ring are slightly pitted. Not enough to feel but you can see it. so i ordered new bearings and races. Will the ring gear be ok?
It doesnt matter. I fugged up the pinion anyway. So ive got one set of gears left. Ima pull them and get an install kit and take them somewhere to get the bearings pressed on and the crush sleeve set.
I'll trade you some sterling 4.56's and install kit for some 15'' 8 lug rims so you can just go sterling and quit ruining all the 14 bolts on the east side of the country. serious.
So i got the hubs rebuilt for the rear and calipers on and it mounted along with my overloads. Also got my fuel tank today. Welded in the bung for the return line and put a couple coats of acid etch primer on it and ill prime and paint it tomorrow.
I might still have to put a 3" block on the rear before its all said and done with.
So i got the shock hoops welded on. Spring hangers and shackle hangers for the front are on. I made new shackles that are 6" eye to eye per what ive read about sd spring swap. I was gonna install the 60 today but the bolts i have that mount the shackle to the bracket are to short so ill get those tomorrow. I have everything to rebuild the 60. Already changed the bottom races and bearings for the kps.
Got the cummins tore down. Found out that the head bolts are the type that have to be changed when the gasket gets done so those are on order. Right now im just repacking the front wheel bearings and that sort of stuff. Hopefully get the cab on soon so i can get the motor and tranny in.
I need to make myself a list of what needs bought currently.
tore the cummins down for new gaskets and to check it out. Painted it cast iron color. Should have it back together new week when the head bolts get here. As soon as i get the bolts i need ill have the 60 done and in for good.
Painted the bottom of the cab tonight with chassis saver. kinda like por 15. itll go on for good this weekend if my help shows up.
got the front of the frame painted. As soon as i get botls tomorrow the 60 will go in.
cheeto that all that painting would make some wonder if your really from wv that truck wont have enough rust to claim to be a wv truck i mean even the gas tank looks good lol
Well the truck was from south carolina orignally so theres basically no rust. Im trying my best to keep it from ever rusting. As far as the tank goes i used the primer we used on hot rods. Its basically an acid based primer that eats into the metal. Its a great bonding agent on bare metal. Covered in in black rustoleum after that. Cleaned the frame down and brushed on two coats of rustoleum on it. Plan on using aluminum fuel lines and coated brake lines. all bolts are zinc coated.
