Good Thursday mornin all, one more sleep and I'm on vacation again. I thought I was done but low and behold I had another week left for summer. I alway's save a week for hockey in the winter.
Evening Gerry... Today I cleaned up my jobsite/new house... Hauled a dump trailer load of garbage to the landfill site, weighed about 1k, plus the weight of the dump trailer. Driving this 5.0L compared to my Ecoboost, I wouldn't buy a 5.0L for a work truck. You can definitely notice the 40lbft of torque missing.
Doing better then I, all Ive added was a winch and a blade for the front. My saw gets tarp strapped on haha.
I have a basket for my chainsaw but still use a tarp strap to secure it.
Good evening Gerry, hope your weather is as nice as our`s.
Too bad about the 5.0 Sherm, I was hoping it was a real rocket and good for pulling.
if they made the 5.0L an ecoboost I'm sure that would solve the problem I've decided that the saying "there's no replacement for displacement" can now be changed to "twin turbos are the replacement for displacement"...lol
Yes, 6.2 is the large V8 offered. I have driven a F350 with the 6.2 (no trailer), and "seat of the pants" tells me that its no where near the torque:weight ratio of the ecoboost in the F150.
Take right from ford.ca, the F150 XLT Crew/6.5' box with with Ecoboost power weighs 5716lbs and the Ecoboost puts out 365hp/420lbft of torque. Power:weight = 0.064hp per pound, Torque:weight = 0.073lbft per pound.
F350 XLT Crew 6.5 with 6.2L weighs 6787lbs and the 6.2L puts 385hp/405lbft of torque. Power:weight = 0.057hp/pound, Torqueound = 0.06lbft/lb...
I don't know how that translates into 0-60 times when towing a similar load, but I do know the F350/gas didn't feel as perky as the Ecoboost when empty.
For poops and grins, lets look at the 6.2 in a F150. Only offered in Lariat trim, weight of 5716lbs, power/torque is 411/434. Ratios are 0.072 hp/lb, 0.076lbft/lb... Compared to the Ecoboost, a 6.2L powered truck has a "noticably better hp/lb ratio, but not much difference in the torque.
One could go further to figure out the hp/$ spent, but thats enough numbers for me I like my ecoboost, hope I get it back soon.
