AARRRGGGHHHHH...I'm pissed. Had near the most productive day yesterday. Finished shingling the roof of our new house shortly after noon hour, quick bite to eat then got the clutch cable replaced in my buddy's '03 SVT Cobra, then moved on to swapping the gears in my car from factory 2.73 to new Ford Racing 3.73!!! It took us a while, both being new to the swap, started around 2:45, car drove out of my garage on her own power at 10:30pm. Worse thing is...I got a nasty coasting/deceleration whine...got to pull the whole thing out again and start over...
Yeah, tooth pattern and backlash... I couldn't find a Dial indicator in town, that was a huge mistake to try and do it without that... Oh well, great experience, and I know it won't take near as long to do it this time...lol
If I were kidding, I wouldn't be sitting here contemplating skipping church to tear into my car again this morning... I'm going to try to locate a dial indicator from somewhere to do this properly.
yes and we were running on the heel (outside) of the ring, but not extreme...We didn't feel that it would make that big a difference. Reading material seemed to state that the backlash was most important, the tooth placement was more for strength than anything else...
adjustments have to be made by tearing everything apart again Pinion depth by complete disassembly (for tooth pattern), backlash is shimmed on either side of the carrier and ring gear so that has to come out in order to move shims...
