Morning Boys. A balmy -29 here this am...then the windchill comes on board and makes it interesting. I got my sewer to keep from freezing so I'm happy.

Randy...Allow me to be the first to say that spending that kind of money on an engagement ring is 110% foolishness. I realize that you love the girl and all, but c'mon...that's a huge chunk of change to throw down on a little piece of shiny metal. But hey...its your cash, whatever makes you happy

$5000 would put you well on the way to a nice body conversion for your F350 to give you the extra space that you will need once all your family planning comes to light.

On the other hand, I'm in a little predicament myself... We have my 2 sisters staying with us for a few days, but every vehicle we have only seats 5...guess the kids can double in a seat belt in the F350. I've been looking at the new Ford Expedition. Pricey vehicles, but lots of room, 3rd row seating, a full chassis and full size 4x4, with a 9200# towing capacity. I'm on the fence about trading my F350 on one.

Hope everyone has a good Sunday!!

Sherm, lucky for you the sisters are not staying long, lol

I agree on the ring also, thats a lot of coin Randy, if she really loves you a cheaper ring will do....

Happy Sunday mornin'all. The ring is a symbol. $5grand is a lot of money, but it's up to you. Also, when you decideto have critter's, that'll take a big chunk out of your account. When they're babies, it's not too bad. When they get older, it starts to get expensive. As for sledding, don't expect Momma to stay home every weekend while you're out riding. Our whole lifestyle changed when we had kids, and we started our family in our late 30's. (wanted a better financial footprint) Most people wait 2 yrs between children, so you have lots of time to make a decision about your truck. Have a happy New Year.

Yeah I am leaning towards keeping my truck as well. We have a topper as well and they are very useful, it's actually Sherwin's old topper. I guess my big dog just has to learn to be squished for the trip.

My wife doesn't have a big "rock" from engagement or as a wedding band. As a matter of fact, her engagement symbol (a watch, as she was into watches at the time), our wedding rings, and our entire wedding including our flights to NL cost less than 5g. I don't know that our quality of marriage would be any different had we spent a small fortune on it all. I sometimes wish that I had a different mindset and was in a better financial position at the time and would/could have thrown her a big fancy wedding, but on the other hand when my wife talks about doing it all over again, she talks about eloping...

Like everyone has said...the rings are just symbols. Its whats in the heart that counts. I wish the best for everyone anyway...

I totally agree with everyone on the engagement ring part, it is way to much money to be spending on a rock. This was my girlfriend's choice, not mine. If it was mine I would still spend at least $1000 on a ring but not over $5000. If you guys think that is nuts, the honeymoon she has picked out for us is going to be close to $10,000....

I get the expensive engagement ring part though, because you do show it to everyone but it's a ring! It not useful like aftermarket suspension on my truck. She thinks if I can spend $5000 on my truck to make it ride better than I can spend $5000 on her for an engagement ring... *I love her, I love her, I love her (repeating this in my head as I type this lol)*

You could always have the pooch travel in the back/topper. Its not ideal but would work. He(?) may actually be more comfortable back there with more room and not as warm.

Perhaps its time for an E350 4x4...

I see a whole lot of "not what I want but what she wants" going on here... Please retrieve your nuts from her clutches and establish a common ground you can both work on, where you also get what you want... Trust me. Giving her way all the time will not make you both happy, no matter how much tail you get and how much stuff she has.

An equal amount of humor and serious was infused in this post...

It's not always like that Sherwin lol, for everyday life decisions we do everything together. This is one of the few things where I told her to make the decision herself. Which was my choice to give her the choice. We won't be getting married till 2016 though so we do have some time to save money, and some time to change her mind a little lol.

I agree with Sherm. Like the old adage " Champagne taste, Beer budget " It used to be you only do it once (get married). That's not the case anymore. Your young, you want the fairy-tale. Life isn't like that anymore. How much for the wedding band, and reception? your at $15000.00 just the engagement ring and honeymoon. You'll be driving that truck and sled for many years.

Yeah, I think I'll be keeping my truck and sled for a long time lol. At least when I want something expensive, it's useful for many years i.e. Snowmobiles, cargo trailers, aftermarket suspension for my truck ect..

In my girlfriends defence, she is planning on using her parents large yard for our wedding so we don't have to pay for a chruch or anyother buildings which will save us some coin.

Sherwin, don't trade in your F350 for an Expedition. They are nice vehicles but how often do you have more than 5 passengers? It's not worth the big hit you'll take trading in the F350. Just do what I did and get your wife a nice used Ford Explorer. Our 2011 which is fully loaded and only had 66,000km on it was 34,000 and that was a high price. Only reason why we paid so much for it was because it was at my dealer, had every option available and it was the one my girlfriend wanted. Had it been at a random dealership I would have walked but I actually like my dealership. That being said you can find a nice used 2011 XLT for roughly $26-28000 with decent mileage.
