I think they should be allowed to use the roads, I have always tried to show bikers, walkers and horse riders respect and share the road. I used to own horses and I know that they need to be respected. I also know that I would give traffic the right of way if I had room to get off the road. I knew I was slower and should let faster traffic pass. I don't mind following a bicycler for a ways, but when they repeatedly ride pass pull overs long enough to pull into and never break there stride, and allow the vehicles behind them to pass, I start to get pissed. When trying to maintain some speed while towing a 26 foot camper and I have to slow to 5-10 mph on a road that is 45 mph, just to allow them to change gears and switch *** checks, you bet I am going to pour on the coal when the road is safe. Even if fuel hits 10 bucks a gallon, It would be worth it. I don't endorse needless smoking of innocent walkers or bystanders cause us oil burners get a bad enough rap anyway, in the case of those road hogging, " I got more rights than you", tight pants and shirt in gay colors, I don't feel guilt at all. As a matter of fact, I feel pretty darn good.
It's kind of funny. Those folks who won't move over to let a car pass sure do get pissed when you slow them down. I like to drag my 12' shredder (non bat wing) that leaves them just a couple of feet of temptation on the edge of the FM roads, but takes up the whole gravel road.
I have ridden horses on the roads sense I was knee high to a crawfish. Most people have respect for this, but some don't. Some think it's funny to blow their horn when they get close to you. You can imagine what can happen with a Young horse.
I try to give the bickers room when I pass them. Down here in the country, they have club rides from the city. There will be 20 to 30 riders right behind each other, riding just off center in the tight lane. We have big ditches on each side. They can never be passed with the traffic coming in the other direction, and they know this. They should stick to riding where there is a shoulder to pull off on.
EDIT: Maybe I just need to have Chris come down here and ride around.
Not to get too far OT but...I couldn't sleep this morning so I got up way early this morning and threw a rack of baby backs onto the pit and oak smoked them at 175/200* for about 6 hours.. Yeah, I was out there in the wee hours of the morning tending a pit. I'll tell ya though, my lunch today is pretty darned tasty. This was a practice run for this Friday. I've got it down.
Good old fashioned Texas style BBQ and vacation, they go hand in hand.
