Did you save a copy of your stock file on your PC? And no, locked id VIN locked, meaning it's married to you VIN. You should still be able to upload tunes, but first you really need to recover that stock file.

No I didnt save a stock file on my PC. I did call Matt and he said that it was most likely a firmwire problem and that I need to call them to go through it. But I am leaving on vacation tomorrw going to NC. I would like to know if the agressive street economy is ok with a stock truck pulling nothing?

It looks like I do need to talk to tech support at SCT. It says I might need to get a Return Authorization code or something.

I guess i will have to contact tech support. The SCT website says that mine is locked and I will need to get a Return Authorization code or something so I can change my tunes.

(It was updated/reflashed to VXCF5 at the dealer in February.)

I was under the impression that the flash memory, once "upgraded," could not be "reverted" to an earlier flash level.

Does the X-Cal-II have some heretofore unacknowledged capability to revert, or is it just improperly re-writing the bits that define the strategy code without actually reverting? When checking the strategy code on the downloaded VXCF5 *files* it shows a VXCF5 strategy code.

I should note that I did NOT completely erase the X-Cal-II (including the previous "stock" tune) when the flash level was upgraded. Could I now have, as the "stock" tune, some foobar hybrid of VXCF4 and VXCF5?

If you didn't "unlock" your II when you had the new flash put in, your old flash was still stored in the Xcal as it's means to lock itself to the truck. Before you reflash with new tunes on your new factory flash you HAVE to unlock the Xcal or it will put your old factory flash back in your truck when you load a new tune and then go back to stock. You don't have to completely erase the XCal, but it does have to be unlocked. IMHO you have your old factory flash back in the PCM, but the FICM will still be the same.

So the Xcal2 doesn't let you save your stock tune to your pc? I was going to pick up a used Xcal2, but that makes me a little nervous. Should I wait until I can get a X3 or their new tuner coming out?

I have heard a few people complaining about the X3 in the tuner forum, I would actually hold out til something else is on the market. Now of course, you could get something with bugs in it being new, but I don't think you would be any better off with the X3 based on what I have been seeing in user reviews and such.

I have had the Xcal2 for quite a while now, and recently got the hybrid race tune from evan, and it is freakin awesome. As far as fear of not saving your stock file, it shouldn't really be an issue unless you don't have somewhere safe to store your X2, but I would definately recommend the X2.
