    I was reading an old thread about offsets and back spacing on wheels. You really seem to know your stuff . If you can help me out, or give me a little advice I would really appreciate it. I own an 06 f-250 . Right now it's stock . I was getting ready to order a set of 22" BMF Novakanes and put a set of 35" x 13.5 toyo M/T tires. The wheels are 10 1/2 " wide. I'm not exactly sure what offset I need to order. I want them to sit flush or maybe 1" or less out from the fender. I'm going to install a 4" lift at the same time. Not sure which lift to get either ? Thanks for any advice if you can help !

    Hey, I actually joined this site today and was wanting to ask you about your off road tech bumper and where you got it and how much it was. I really like the look of it and want to get one but wanted to ask you about it and if you liked it and recommended it. My uncle got an ecoboost and loves it!     hello, I have an 06 250 and am looking at doing a 4" lift, I have new 35" cepeks, I saw your truck and really like the look. I was curious if you had any pictures of you standing next to the truck to give a better idea of the height. If so that would be much appreciated! Thanks

    Offset is the best way to compare tire position when looking at wheels with different widths. Offset is the millimeter measurement from the lug surface to the center of the wheel (and the center of the tire). Negative offset moves the wheel out, positive moves it in.

    Backspace is the measurement from the back of the wheel to the lug surface, which also determines where the wheel and tire sit, but also depends on the wheel width.

    Essentially, backspace minus 1/2" for bead width, minus wheel width divided by two is approximately the offset in inches. Using the stated wheel width (actual width is wider due to bead width, stated is measured inside the bead, a 10" wheel is 11" outside edge to outside edge).

    (backspace - 1/2") - (wheel width / 2) = backspace in inches, 1inch is 25.4mm

    As far as switching to a skinnier tire, I guess i'll get over that if I can't put it on 16" wheels. I don't drive my truck often at all. It will likely be 3-4 years before I need new tires. I want rims much sooner than that.

    So, staying with the 315 75R16 tires, i should look for a -6mm offset or closer to 0. Got that. Does backspacing not matter then? I don't understand how it couldn't.

    Sorry, Just trying not to F this up. I'm gonna order online and I don't want to have to send anything back.

    Wouldn't the backspacing change with width of the rim? I guess I'll be ordering a 10" rim since I won't be able to switch to skinnier tires later. Hope this makes sense. I'll be mounting the 315 75R16 tires on 16X10 rims. I'd like them to be even with or a bit inside the fenders. As little chance of rubbing the leaf springs when I turn as possible (back spacing?) Truck is lifted about 4". Thanks again, really appreciate the help.

    Brad here. Been wanting to buy new wheels for a while now and never make the purchase because I don't know what to get as far as offset and back-spacing. Came across this site and some of your messages and decided to join up. You seem to be the only guy in town that gets the stuff. Anyway, I'd really appreciate some help.

    I have a 1999 F250 regular cab with around 3-4 inches of lift. My tires are Dick Cepek FC-II 315 75 r16. They're like new so I'll be sticking with the 16" wheel. These tires are currently mounted on the factory rims. I do not want them to stick out wider than the truck is. Even at worst, 1/4 or 1/2" or so in ideally. Also, next time I need tires I will probably go skinnier so I'm thinking a 9" wide rim instead of 10". If you get a chance let me know what you think I need. Thanks in advance.

    Cartmanea-I am new to the sight but have enjoyed reading your responses to the maginitude of questions being thrown at you. If you don't mind I would like to ask one myself. I have a 2003 Ford F250 Superduty 7.3 with a 3"-4" lift. I ordered Motometal 955's today 20x10 -12 offset with Mickey Thompson 35x12.50 20's. Will the -12 with the 5" backspacing look ok or should I switch to a -25 with a 4.5" backspace? I don't mind the tires sticking out a little bit (1" or so) but don't want to have to worry about tire rubbing on leaf springs. I'm not sure Motometal offers a -25 for the 955 wheels. I really like to look of your 03. Thats about perfect in my opinion. thanks in advance for helping me out-Mark
