Isn't there a sticker underneath the hood that tells you what the latest flash that you had? I never bothered to look, but I could have sworn I read that somewhere on here bout the sticker.

I have tunes from spartan, and from Jody at DP. The economy programs from each, arn't any better than stock as far as mpgs, at least for me. The performance programs always give me better economy.
I found out that unplugging the ScanGauge from the OBD port causes it to lose the % adjustment we have to do to calibrate the fuel readings... Time to tune = time to remember what the % difference was, and reset it. I had the ScanGauge calibrated dead-nuts before I unplugged it to re-tune, and I still have at least one more fill up before I get it right again, but it does get right. At present, I think I'm reading lower MPG's by 5ish% under actual. Next load of fuel will tell...

I too get better MPGs on the ASE than I do with the GenEcon or any tow tune. I may have to pop in the Hybrid Race once I get my % difference dialed in and the number committed to memory. I'll just adjust it on the fly after I re-tune. I still get a kick out of the ScanGauge, and I'm still getting 2 MPGs better now that before. I'm not dancing in the streets, but I'm tapping my foot a little bit more.

There is a sticker, but it was there when I bought the truck and it's been in twice for service since then. There's no guaranty that it's accurate; if I got reflashed and it didn't get a new sticker, or if it had previous service without a sticker update... I'm not too keen on believing what the sticker says, but I go read it and post the info.

OK, here's the deal... the sticker says this:

The following modifications have been made
3U7A-1LA650-FUD (the U's may be W's, but it's hard to tell)
Dealer # 05536

I think if your truck has been out of warranty(or atleast beyond the 36k warranty) that they would have asked you about the flash because aren't those things 100 dollars a pop? Unless they want a messy scene of you not wanting to pay for something you didn't ask for. I never looked at mine, but mine also hasn't been accurate for the last 3 months after Matt forced a flash into my truck for his FICM tuning.

I think your X3 can tell you what strategy code you have.

its also up to you if you want to add aggressive to the front of the name.
the aggressive tunes are actually very powerful yet streetable tunes.

i haven't followed things for the last few weeks, so i'm not sure if people are still having a hard time getting a hold of Spartan or not, but regardless if you want to wait for their tunes i'm sure you will be quite satisifed those guys know what they are doing.

you can also get SCT and tuning from eric at innovative diesel, and i can say for a certainty that you will have your tunes most likely the same day you order them, if not then the next day for sure.
and eric's tunes are nothing short of perfect once you get them dialed in for your truck. i can't speak for everyone, but depending on which tune i run from him, my truck has a tendency to puke, but this is probably not his fault, as i do know my heads are not perfectly flat (within tolerance thou) and i am studded.

i can say that as far as tranny shifting issues, i have had much better luck running eric's tunes. but again, my tranny is not stock, not even close either.

you can't go wrong with eric's tunes no matter what.
and if you want spartan tuning then you will probably not be disappointed either once you receive them, i just know that some people were having problems getting their tunes in a reasonable time, as they have been backed up on 6.4 stuff, but from what i've read recently seems like they have started getting more prompt with them.

whichever way you go, just make sure you let your tune writer know exactly what you have done to your truck, every detail, and exactly what your goals are so that they have the information they need to correctly write your files. hope this helps.

The Aggressive Street Economy tune that Evan rewrote for me is exactly what I was hoping for. The power curves higher in the range providing better, more predictable street drive-ability, but will still bust the tires lose anytime under 35MPH; shifting is perfect, almost intuitive; and then the real treat in these trying times...
24 MPG on the freeway! (cruise set at 70mph)

My average MPG's has jumped from 14.7 (old ASE tune) to 16.9, and it's still in
ching up as I drive...

Was it worth the wait...

Most emphatically, YES!

that is AWESOME MAN !!!

i have been averaging pretty consisten 10-12 mpg since i've had my truck, no matter which tuning i've been using from spartan.. although i did have an economy tune from him once that i got about 14mpg from, but it was absolutey gutless...

i switched to some larger 200 cc sticks from josh (sdt) few weeks back, and when running a NOSMOKE tune from eric (he pulled out as much fueling as possible at partial throttle) i managed 16.4mpg going to utah memorial day weekend. and this was at while doing about 90mph the whole way !!

the tune isn't that powerful under light input, although still strong enough to pull from a stock truck w/mild tuning, but once the hammer drops completely there's enough fuel available to make some impressive passing and will hit 40psi..

i've also got an xtreme street tune from him that is nothing short of godlike in the power department ! downside though is that even while trying to drive conservatively with this tune the smoke is quite plentiful and the MPG are between 6-8...
i just can't afford to drive with that tune in right now, but man it's a lot of fun.. it also pukes a tad with the XS tune, but not nearly as bad as it puked before i wrapped everything and made a heat shield above my EGR cooler. this tune will make more than 45psi and is scary fast !

the no smoke tune is actually the perfect all around tune. light throttle results in impressive (for me anyway) fuel economy and it never ever pukes on this tune.

my first VGT upgraded turbo was built by spartan.. that was 2 turbos ago.

since then i've had my ceramic coated VGTSS and now i am running an S300 nonvgt turbo. my S300 was built by chris at river city turbos, and it was making about 40 psi boost with my 175cc sticks..

i have since upgraded to 200cc sticks from josh, and i've seen over 45psi of boost on the highway when i backed off.. i'm sure it will make more, but i was already going well over 130mph and i still had more throttle to go ! !

Tuning Archive Up and Running

Guys, just as an update...

I'm sure lots of you will be happy to know that we now have our tuning archive for our SCT custom tunes up and running.

Currently, I have VXAP1, VXAP2, VXBC9, VXCF4, and VXCF5 flashes added to the archive. Anyone with an Xcal2, Xcal3, or Livewire from us or any other vendor can download the tunes free of charge straight from our website.

I'll be adding other codes (VXCF1 and VXDB1 are scheduled for tomorrow) as time goes on. If you don't see your code on the list, just shoot us an email to the calibrations department.

You can visit the archive at Spartan Diesel Technologies - Technology Beyond Performance!, there is a link on the main page.

Matt,

The ultra comp and hybrid race download for the VXBC9 strategy is the same. Both of them download a hybrid race file. Just a heads up. Thanks for the archive though!!!!
