2 Cycle engine out as additive

Tried my first tank with 2 cycle engine oil. No - Not used oil, or used trans fluid. Just regular new 2 cycle engine oil. Idles MUCH quieter, overall much smoother and less noisy. I have always added PSDK but after reading two interesting articles and some advice decided to give this a try i have changed my mind. Take a look at these - This is what swayed my opinion about this additive.

General rule is - 1oz to every gallon

http://mopar.mopar1973man.com/2002%2..._cycle_oil.htm
- Read most of everything here - great science to back it up

http://www.johnfjensen.com/Diesel_fu...itive_test.pdf
- Most of you have seen this test - 2 cycle ranks as #7 on the test with good results similar to bio and XPD - Its also extremely cheap.

Any thoughts?

i too just experimented with the 2stroke oil. I bought the Super Tech ashless stuff from wally world. I only mixed a ratio of .5 oz to every gallon though. I wanted to experiment with the smaller amount first. Next tank, i may try a 1 oz:1 gal ratio.

I had been ready studies similar to the ones you posted and became interested. A cummins buddy of mine tried her out and saw a 2 mpg increase! I figured, what the heck might as well try it. 2 stroke oil is designed to burn.

alot of people will disagree with this, but to each his own.

Ya, maybe its a cummins thing! the first link i posted has good stuff from a "Mopar Guy". Have you seen or heard any difference so far? 2mpg?!?! Hmm that would be great but i doubtful. Im getting 13.75 hand calculated last tank. (some towing, alot of snow - some towing in snow!)

This is very interesting reading. I am curious to know if it makes a difference if you use synthetic 2-stroke oil or dino oil. Being I run synthetic 5-40 in the engine, should I use the synthetic 2-stroke? I am going to be researching this more. Makes sense to me...

Good site. I posted a link to the forum a few days ago and people blew it off. You are right, there is good research involved. Glad someone else sees the value of the site.

To me, the big question is how much does it cost per treatment? If I use one ounce per gallon, I would need a quart basically per tank. How much is a quart of that stuff? About the syn, I'm not so sure in this case if the difference between syn & dino would be worth it. I guess you could try a quart of each and see if there is any noticeable difference. Definitely let us know how it works out for you!!

I got 32Oz (perfect for me) of valvoline 2 cycle for 2.99 ... I think thats pretty good. Summer blend XPD may be a little cheaper. Its a lot less then DK, and much more benefit.

i first started using 2 stroke oil last year and i was averaging 12.5-13.5 mpg prior to it. now i am averaging 14.5-16, depending on how i drive it. i love it and put it in every tank! Im hoping to increase my mileage when i put my new injectors in this fall

Does your truck smoke more with the 2-cycle oil? It seems like something to try, just have to convince myself to do it.

I am with you on this . I would be intersted to see if I can run something like maxima's castor oil. The sweetest smelling 2 stroke oil on earth. (And it is a good lubricant)
