Ok, I'll bite. I've been hearing all about this. My truck is old and loud and anyhting I can do to shut it up will be good enough for me. I've got almost 185K on the stock injectors. I know some new ones will do it some good, just haven't gotten around to doing it yet.

Last week I drove from New Orleans, LA to Jacksonville, FL. Before I left I purposely topped off the tank all the way up to the top of the filler neck. I did this to hear the reduction in noise to verify that I need to do the in-tank mods and I also did it to get a good read at some full on highway mileage.

Anyway I drove non-stop from NO to JAX (8.5hrs one way) on a single tank of fuel! I hand calculated 18.6mpg. I'm making that trip again soon and will try the 2-stroke and see what I find out. BTW, on my first trip I used the white DK...

Gimme a few days and I should be able to report some findings.

Just my personal opinion here, but if your truck runs good and your getting 18+ MPG then I'd leave the injectors alone. I'm still running my factory injectors.

I sort of feel that way, But I've had a Ford durability engineer confirm that they are not designed for that much mileage.

I also have some cold weather problems and I don't think it's compression. I think the injectors are worn and one or two seem to get stuck. Someone's also told me that the poppets in there can get worn and will stick when they are cold due to the metal contracting, etc... Maybe it's just the IPR causing it? This is on my list too.

All I know is I can drive my truck down the street while it stumbles and then I can feed it some throttle and get the revs up all of a sudden it turns on like I flipped a switch and it will run on all cylinders. I've been all through the harnesses and such and all are OK. The UVCs are new too. Don't think it's an oil issue. It'll do it on fresh synthetic oil.

I've been debating the 2 stroke stuff, so this long trip for back to back runs would be a good test.

I don't have any stumbling in mine. If you're showing issues then by all means test the 2 cylce out and see if it really does smooth things out as indicated. According to another thread apparently you need to be wary of some of the ebay injectors.

I've also been keeping an eye, moreso my ear, to my Dad's 02. He bought it new and I have noticed it getting louder over the years. He still knocks down 20mpg. Once i do the in-tank mods I'll probably do his next. He's got about 120K on it too, but it's nowhere as near as loud as mine.

I remember a post from Kwik a few years back when he changed the injectors on his truck with only 8x,xxx on it and he noticed a vast difference in noise reduction.

Other than my rough running when cold it's awesome... down here it gets downright hot during the summer and that's when my truck runs it's best.

Just an update here-I filled up today (cost me 95.00-ouch!) and mixed in my first mixture of 2-cycle oil. I have since only put on about 20 miles, but I can tell you it has gotten a little quieter, especially noticed it at highway speeds. Reason I can tell is that I now hear more of the intake noise due to the 6637 filter. I am going to monitor this closely with mileage and what not, but remember I am still running winter blend up here in Minnesota. I will post back when I know more. So far so good, no difference in smoke either. Oh by the way I went with 1 oz per gallon.

Well I tried some 2 cycle oil after reading this thread, after about 50 miles I havnt noticed any difference in noise. But I also run Howes in every tank so my injectors might already be at there quietest.

You do know Minnesota already mixes biodiesel in with their fuel. Unless you find an added benefit from the 2 cycle, a lubricity additive isn't really needed for you.

I am looking into that-I am close to the Canadian border, and I know that the station I buy fuel from gets their fuel trucked in directly from Canada, so I am going to ask the owner of the station if and what % of bio is truly in the fuel.

I too use a 2% biodiesel station and it quieted up the engine alot but i am going to try .50 ounce per gallon of 2 cycle oil just to see some results, mileage, noise. Ill report my findings back later when i,m out of fuel.

with .5 ounces per gallon, i saw very minimal mileage increases, as in .4 better, not worth it. but this tank i am trying 1 ounce per gallon, we shall see

i should have my mileage results for my 1oz per gallon tank here within the next day or two. I still have a quarter of a tank left with 400 miles travelled, which is really good for me and my 37's
