I have thought of running some Honda HP2 or redline fully synthetic oil but that would be pretty expensive compared to buying the gallon stuff at wal mart. I have continued to run the wal mart 2 stroke oil everytime I put diesel in. It has noticable stayed running quieter at all RPMS especially at idle and if im not mistaken I think I got some of my black smoke back like it used to before the USLD came out. Either way it makes my engine run quieter
it doesn't really just mean that. that is just a guideline for finding ashless 2 stroke. At any rate, TC-W3 is a marine standard. Most just refer to TC-W2 instead of saying 2 stroke since there are so many different ones. Notice how the one you find in walmart is outboard. It's not just coincidence. Here it a good read:
yeah, and it does. it's the easiest way to make sure of what your getting. I had never really heard of it before, but because of this thread, I had some reading to do.
Has anyone running the stuff checked their fuel filter? What about a UOA?
Some have stated that the TCW-3 could have harmful side effects.
Those who use 2 cycle oil in an attempt to increase MPG might want to read this thread which tries to determine how mileage might possibly be improved with additives to #2 diesel...
FWIW, a CAT tech told me to stick with name brand DFAs, but if I wanted just increased lubricity that plain (clear) hydraulic oil would probably not harm my injectors, but not to use the red colored version because of the deposits it would cause over time!
I just sent off a sample to Blackstone today as I just want to make sure with the new injectors I'm not getting anyfuel bleed over or anything crazy (high oil level I may have put too much in.. but playing it safe). I changed my oil about 800 miles ago and have run 1oz to 1 gal ratio of 2 stroke for the past 1000 miles so I'll let you know if anything comes up funky.

I don't think the standard Blackstone report shows seperate nitration, oxidation, sulfur, & soot levels like Schaeffer's or OAI testing does on there reports which is were I would suspect the levels to increase due to the burning of the added 2-stroke, but please post the results when you get them....might show something in the insolubles.
This is what I posted a page back to be aware of:
"If you are using 2-stroke oil and doing an oil analysis check your reports for an increase in nitration and soot levels.
Nitration products are formed by the reaction of the products of combustion with lubricating film in the fuel combustion areas. These products are highly acidic and attack metal parts. Nitration products also rapidly accelerate oil oxidation.
If you see an increase in nitration with the use of 2-stroke oil I would consider another alternative. I normally see nitration below 5 on a 5,000 mile used oil sample on my 7.3L PSD."
Believe it or not, I am not hearing a difference in my motor. I didn't at first, but it's been about 800 miles since I added the 2 stroke.
on another note, the mysterious slight miss (like a fouled plug) that I would get every now and then at idle has completely disappeared. i changed filters and oil and was using DK. then had a cct and buzz test done and everything came up fine. It wouldn't do it all the time, but often enough to annoy the hell out of me. i'm not saying for sure that the 2 stroke got rid of it, but I am now noticing a difference that I never did using DK.
Danny, looks good and all within normal specs. But a 900 mile oil analysis doesn't reveal much unless there is something major going on. Sounds like the 175/146 single shots are working out well for you - that's cool, I like them also.
For what it is worth - Iron is considered normal under under 100 ppm by oil analysis companies for diesel engines. On your previous UOA your iron was high thirties at @ 5,000 miles. Again, within normal specs, but you can easily drop the iron 10-15 points by trying Schaeffer's, Delo 400 or Rotella 5W-40 synthetic.
Blackstone does not show nitration or oxidation levels on there UOA
