Well, I guess I am going to be on the minority on here, but what the heck. I ran a tank full of 2 cycle though my truck and saw no difference over using a regular fuel treatment. The truck sounded the same and I actually lost about .5 mpg. I mixed the two cycle 1oz to 1gal. Both trips were 100% hwy, so the results could not vary. Schaeffers fuel treatment cost me about 2.00 dollars a fill up vs the 4 dollars for the 2cycle. I will be staying with the Schaeffer's Diesel Treat 2000.
I just went through my first tankful, and although I would like to give some concrete mileage results, I cannot. We are still on winter blend fuel here, plus the fact that from time to time it may sit and idle for 10 minutes due to the cold weather. I personally thought the engine was quieter-not so much at idle but at highway cruising speeds. I am now running this next tank without it to see if it goes back the other way. It SEEMS that my mileage was a bit better, but I am not going to post numbers due to the variables I am dealing with.
Just wanna keep everyone updated. The 2 cycle has held steady at getting me an overall 14 MPG. This is HW/some towing (4.5K)/city. A good mix of all. before i added the 2 cycle i was getting around 12-13. We have not switched to summer fuel yet so i look forward to adding a few MPG's. The sound level is also down. I love this stuff
added it at 1oz per gallon. immediate difference in noise at idle to 1800 rpm with the pto engaged. acceleration is smooth and quiet. outstanding mod to the engine.
no smoke and cheap to boot.
I could run the more sophisticated cleaners and lubes but my thought is this. the TEST fuel was UNTREATED! in the tank ULSD is supposed to be operationally lubed to 520 microns by adding the 2 stroke oil we are bringing the fuel down to WELL UNDER the industry request of 460 microns of wear (approx 520 -162=358, give or take fuel quality).
I'll let you know how it works in the next 100,000 mile report. should be sometime mid next year with the miles I put on. LOL!, no seriously, by june 09 should have it back for you.
Thanks for the link on that study. Looks good for the 2 stroke. Still have not filled the tank yet, will do this weekend and add it in. Sould have some mpg results next weekend.
Went to wally world tonight and picked some 2 stoke up, just wondering if I got the right stuff before I add it to the tank. What I got is Super Tech Outboard 2-cycle TC-W3 engine oil. Is this right????
Thanks
i too have tried this and while i am not ready to rave over it, i dont think it has hurt anything. i am going to change my fuelk filter today but i have mixed my super tech at a 1oz to 1 gal rate.
i achieved 19.1mpg average with this last tank and 2cycle oil 1 oz/gallon. same exact driving situations where i would get between 17.5-18.5. ~1mpg gain
I am trying it again to see what happens. after that I will run a tank without it. other than that, i really haven't noticed a difference.
If you are using 2-stroke oil and doing an oil analysis check your reports for an increase in nitration and soot levels.
Nitration products are formed by the reaction of the products of combustion with lubricating film in the fuel combustion areas. These products are highly acidic and attack metal parts. Nitration products also rapidly accelerate oil oxidation.
If you see an increase in nitration with the use of 2-stroke oil I would consider another alternative. I normally see nitration below 5 on a 5,000 mile used oil sample on my 7.3L PSD.
