We had a big discussion about that before heading out. Pulls much better in that setting and as long as I am driving and keeping an eye on all the temps, what will it hurt? The only time the trans temp went up was in the "towing Mode" in the manual. That was in Iowa at 11 degrees. Temps remained down for the rest of the trip till I got to south Florida and started the "stop and go" with the traffic. Don't think it had anything to do with the HP setting I had on the Edge. My tranny guy says I'm set to pull at any setting now.
The only issue I have with John, is the fact I don't know his products. I know BTS, due to some of the people I'm around have a BTS in their trucks. In fact, they are racing tomorrow, NHRDA here at Pacific Raceways. I know BTS can handle 400HP+
That is true. If you frequent the other forums they lean the other way. But I agree, you have to stick with what your know. From what I have heard they are equals. I just figured you could save a bunch in shipping.
hey gimp,,with the same chip as you i also had clutch slip. finally i blew the disc to pieces and went with the LUK clutch, it works great, smooth, and no problems.

Rod
If it works, why not use it. I'll try it and see what happens this nest weekend heading over the passes.

It will be awhile before I can buy. I can still check with John and some of the other guys who will be racing tomorrow. Word of mouth/typing is all it takes for the best advertisement.
zerowate,
How'd you blow the clutch? Just curious, I don't have the $ for a new one anytime soon and this trucks gotta last me a few hundred years lol. I am by no means a hot rod driver and I baby my truck a lot. Just wondered if I am easy on it if I can tow in the 80hp setting on the edge without issues. I've used the 60hp tow but it just doesn't have the guts I feel it should. It's just nice setting the cruise at 80 and never having to down shift or loose speed for the that matter.
Reason I'm concerned is that I travel a lot with my 16ft trailer. I've got 3 2000 mile round trips in Aug and 5 or 6 1000 mile trips from May-July. So I can't afford to have any issues out on the road. Plus the fuel milage I gain in the 80 setting helps the wallet!
my ole lady pissed me off, and i was just driving like an idiot, and one or some of the springs came loose and jammed things up. as far as towing i only use the low setting, my racecar trailor is probably in the neighborhood of 12-15000 lbs so i know id be too high in the egt department running the middle setting. but a small, light towing might b ok on middle setting ?? but dont take my word on it
I tow with it on the 80 setting and have never had any problem with the egts going to high. and that pulling or big 16ft snowmobile up the mountian at 65 to 70 all the time.
Well that's good to hear 7.3 powerstroker. I figured I'd be alright on the egt's with my setup and not straining the truck by any means, at least not in the 80 hp setting.
Has anyone else had any problems with their trucks after running an edge (or anything else) for a long period of time? Just curious, my truck needs to hit 300k before i get it paid for LOL! Sittin at 138k now so that'll be about 5 more years.
