Size makes a difference, but building a tolerence for it makes all the difference.

So while there some people on, I'll throw this out there. What if I added a larger inner "safety bead" to a set of 15's or 16's? If i took a piece of like 1/4 or so rod, and bent it around the inside lip of the rim, and welded it far enough from the outer bead to sandwich the bead in there? It would be a bit of a pain to get the tire on/off, but I think it might work. I know that my trx450r's rear rims have a pretty decent sized lump in the rim that does pretty much the same thing, and I can take the core out of the valve stem and do donuts on pavement without loosing a bead. Any thoughts?

Sounds like way to much trouble to me.
How many times do you plan on running under 15 psi on your tires.

I've never aired down tire pressure.... thought about it, but didn't need to, and didn't have a way to air back up after.

I dont think It would me much trouble to do it. just a matter of cutting the bar, bending it and welding every few inches. I don't have plans on airing down, just thinking about it. Could it be a decent alternative to a $$$ set of beadlock rims for someone on the cheap like myself? I know it would be nowhere near as good as a set of actual double bead locks, but hey it would be better than nothing. I have a set of steelies laying around, and I would try it if it's not a retarded idea.
Just tryin to see if it would be worth it to pay someone to mount them for me( no tire machine anymore...)

In theory, it sounds like it would work, and obviously be much cheaper than bead locks.

Do you think it would be better to try it on one wheel, and if you like it, do it to the others.....?

I've had some tires on 15" wheels down to 15 psi and hit some ruts pretty hard and never had any bead problems, so I personaly won't worry about it, but if you do it, I would still be interested in how it went.

Well, after some searching on pirate, it seems that people have been doing it for a while now. From what I'm reading, it really helps. Most of them are on 16.5's, but I would think it could help with rims that have a safety bead too.

I think just try it and see how it works. Never really can tell from other people.

I want to get some beadlocks or something, but i've never needed to air down...
Maybe I'm just not wheeling hard enough.
