My '03 PDS has 126k on the clock. Most of it towing a 27' 5er or a 25' flat bed with construction equipment. My '93 Dodge D250 CTD has 364k on the clock and pulled mostly the same equipment. The 5er it pulled was shorter but heavier and the flat bed is the same.
My trucks get prompt, quality maintenance with trusted products. I believe that is the key to the longevity to any engine. It doesn't guarantee long life, but without it, you can guarantee shorter life.
All of that said, the PSD pulls everything easier than the early 5.9 CTD with the rotary pump.

I have been comparing Ford, Chevy, and Dodge for three years attempting to asertain the best bang for the buck. A long story short... FORD is by far a superior truck over Chevy and Dodge. Ford sets the standards and the rest follows. Many reasnins for this is one, the truck division is Ford's bread and butter. Ford would go under without their trucks, so they are well designed.

When you see an emergency vehicle going down the road such as an ambulance, what chasis are they using...FORD. What better sales statistics can Ford get? I live in North Carolina and every ambulance I see is a Ford.

I have spent many hors on autoTrader.com looking for trucks, if I set up identical search parameters for a truck, such as, diesel engine, 1-ton chassis, quad cab, 4x4, DRW... When I search for Chevy I would get 30-40 hits, when I searched for Dodge I would get 20-25 hits, when I searched Ford I got 145-160 hits. In my neck of the woods there are tons of Fords on the road verses Chevy and Dodge.

FORD has got the truck hands down!!!

Interesting search. Does that mean there are more Fords for sale because there are more sold? Or that there are more for sale because the owner wants to get rid of it?
I suspect the former is true. I know owners of all brands, and each has their reasons for loving or hating their truck. Brand loyalty runs deep. If each of us could build a truck to our liking, it might turn out to be much like a Studebaker...parts from each.

A Cummins is a better motor than the PSD, but a dodge truck isn't built as strong as a ford ranger let alone a f 350 so untill ford can do better we will have to settle for the best truck and second best motor.

I just got back from the last of 2 trips with my new F350 and Jayco 5er. The RV weighs in around 9000#. Without the RV I get 17 to 18 MPG easy (the overhead indicates 18.5 - 19, but the tank says the former), with the RV I get 9 MPG at 70 MPH and a little better at 65 MPH. I drove mostly 60 this last trip, but it had a lot of nontowing miles as well. I don't know what the tank is going to tell me yet.

He shares driving with another guy and haules stuff all over the pacific northwest. So so he claimed.
These guys would take the Iron Butt no problem.

I agree. All I know is what he said and he did have a second driver. Think it was his brother and they said they were always on the road. It was definatly a 6.0 so had to an 03 right? Wonder if it wasn't a 7.3........those years all look kinda the same to me. But I can remember him saying it was an 03 cause his co driver was talking about the duramax he had which he couldn't keep injectors in and the year came up. He did have a case of four gallons of Lucas in the truck bed and other road essentials like he was always moving. He swears by lucas fuel additive for his truck lasting so many miles. Maybe he was exagerating a bit.

length of effective powerband.

the cumins pulls from 1000rpm to 2500rpm.

the 6.0 pulls from about 1300-1500rpm to 4000+rpm.

you do the math.
