I never said the cummins had more power, I said it will handle power if you mod it a whole hell of a lot better.

Dont get me wrong im a dodge fan myself. I dont think they will last long if they dont do something. The problems with the new 6.7, loss of sales looks grim for dodges future. Needless to say I wouldnt buy one till they got back on their feet other wise you might be looking for parts for a new truck at Garage Sales.

Also when i ment behind the Power Curve i wasnt talking HP and TQ numbers I was Speaking about the truck in General.

Lets not start here! If the Cummins can tow (my dealmaker/breaker) 13000# and the PSD can tow 14000#, big deal (to me anyway). I'm looking to buy a 10000# 5th wheel. Both will do it. If I was going for what would do the trick and save the most money, the 04 Dodge has it. But I have my wife involved (probably too much) and she is really stuck on the F250 (not 350 DRW). Since she's working now to pay for this, she has a vote.

And I am looking to forum help just as I am now after the buy. She definitely didn't like looking over my shoulder when I 1st read post #93 pm cumminsforum.com. I almost had her talked into it. FTE was there for me when I was trying to get my old 57 F100 on the road as when I got rid of that for my current 54. You have never let me down!

I understand that, but you have to realize that not all of us are like those dip*****s that were full of BS. Dieselram is a much more helpful and civilized forum.

Also no matter what forum you go on, its always going to blow the opposition's problems way outta proportion.

BTW, what powerplant does your 54 have?

WEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLL......ya see, I will stand behind my thoughts that the B series is the best diesel ever offered in a light vehicle. That said, they don't offer one in a super duty.

When you buy one of these vehicles you buy.....the vehicle.....not the engine. The 05-07 6.0ls are excellent engines and the truck it's in is the best on the market, overall.

The GM's are rated lower than the DCS and FMC for carrying capacity.

Dodge builds an inferior interior compared to the ford.

The deciding factor for me would be what tranny I wanted....manual or auto?

If auto....hands down, no question........FORD!!!

If man., that would be a much harder decision. The dodge w/auto has a bad hesitation problem at take off, but w/man. it is a pullers dream. The ford is also a fine power house w/man.

I would avoid the new 08's all together.....let em work the bugs out and try an 09-10 model.

Also, wanting to pull 10,000...I might would consider a dually

1.) I did get good advice and comments for 2 pages. I appreciate that and I think I acknowleged that on one post.

2.) That's why I went with a similar post on cumminsforum as well as here on FTE. I've been here for years. I am looking for some balance. I'll state here just like I did in the middle of the moronic tyraid, if it were up to me alone, I'd bought the Dodge after the 1st testdrive. I love Ford and always have, but I can't afford that much product loyalty!

3.) The 54 has the original 239 Yblock. 140 HP and the weight of a 460! I don't know if I'd call that a powerplant or not. It won't pull a 10000# 5er.

Week 2 with our 08 F250 SD and still love it. Almost every Ford we have purchased has had issues from the start but this Bad Boy is almost to good to be true. 300 miles. And we are getting 13.3 MPG

Im not Hating on Dodges, just letting you know dont get a new one. I dont think you can go wrong with a CR they are pretty nice. if your looking at getting a Dodge. Stick to the 04.5-07.

Ford look for 05-07 6.0

I know u dont like the chevy but the Duramax is a pretty stout beast in all years since it came out.

How do I know the only Dodge that I've driven is a '04 or '04.5?

check the build date on the gvwr door tag. 6th month or later and it's a late 04-early 05 depending on month.

I think the cummings is a great motor, but the truck you get with it sucks. As far as the 6.7, i would have total faith in the motor, but like everone right now, regen is new and will take time to work out the kinks.

I think any of the new diesels avaliable in light trucks now are good engines, it has become more of a truck prefrence when compared to 10 years ago in the light duty pick-ups, were your options were no were near compariable.

Anyone that has drive at 90MPH while towing 35k #, as the charactor on the Dodge forum, is extremely lucky to have survived (if it's not a total BS) and extremely stupid to brag and post about his Dodge.

We have both Ford and Dodge 1 ton trucks that get used for pulling. I also do some some driving for a friend that uses Dodge Cummins exclusively, so I have some significant seat time with the new 6.7. My main personal truck right now is a 97 Dodge Cummins.

Having said that, I much prefer to pull, using the 06 Power Stroke F350 (6.0 w/six speed manual), especially on a long haul. The Ford F350 is just so much less fatiguing. The less refined nature of the Dodge does cause greater driving fatigue. The Ford tracks better while pulling (you don't have to herd it down the road), and it's much quieter inside. The Dodge seating is less supportive, and it's just a less comfortable interior, compared to the Ford. Although the Dodge tons typically have a softer ride than the F350, I find the more solid feeling of the Ford to be less demanding overall, while pulling a load. Get a longer wheel base truck in any case.

The 6.0 pulls fine if you avoid lugging it down. As long as you use the gears, it's really no problem powerwise. We havn't had any problems with the 6.0. We have also found that the 6.0 gets slightly better fuel economy while pulling.

However, my friend hasn't experianced any problems with his two 6.7 Cummins. The 6.7 is nice, in that just has a ton of low end grunt. The 5.9 Cummins is a legend. I still think it's probably the best diesel motor going in pickups. I love em, but I still like the Ford truck better overall, than the Dodge truck overall.

I havn't pulled using an 08 or newer bi-turbo PSD, so I don't know how it compares.

Well...I'm sort of new to the diesel thing, but I will give you my opinion...if it matters. My wife has an 03 Quadcab 1-ton Duelly 5.9L Cummins...which she got in March. I really love driving it, and it's a very nice truck. My only downfall would definitely be there's not enough room in the backseat personally. I would go Megacab if I was gonna buy Dodge. My buddy has one, and it's very nice...of course another downfall there is the Megacab has a shorter bed...don't have an 8 foot option yet either...I believe. Another thing I noticed is when I have the cruise set around 75...it seems to be REALLY high in the RPM's (above 2000), but that's just me I guess. I do like the room under the hood you have though...if you do any of your own work of course. Hers only had 43,500 miles on it when we got it...and an awesome deal we lucked out on...especially being in Alaska. OK...that's my take on the Dodge...now...
I bought my own diesel in May...and I went with an 03 Ford Supercab FX4 6.0L. I really contemplated a Dodge also...but I've been a Ford man pretty much my whole life. I first drove a PSD in 95, which was a guys I hunted with. I pretty much have been wanting one since then, and finally was able to get my own. I'll be honest...at first I didn't want my truck, but it had nothing to do with the engine...primarily I wanted a Crew Cab, but settled for the Supercab, since I'm usually by myself anyway. But again...like my wifes truck, I lucked out on an awesome deal that I couldn't refuse. I just rolled over 50000 miles 2 days ago...the truck is immaculant, FX4, black leather...pretty much loaded with all that I wanted anyway. I wouldn't have gone leather if it didn't have heated seats. Up here in AK...it's COLD in the winter. But...I'm getting an auto start anyway. Anyway...back to the subject at hand...I love my PSD. The take-off I get is 10 times better then my wifes Cummins. When I hit the gas...I'm rolling like a cheerio...fast. Hers takes a little time (only seconds) to get rolling good. It could be because it's a 1-ton...but still...it seems to lag to me. I have pics of my truck in my galary if you'd like to see them by the way. Anyway...we've only had our trucks for a relatively short time...but she loves hers...and I love mine. I guess it's in what you really want. I don't think you'll be sad in whatever you choose...I hope. Either way...good luck in your decision, and I hope this might have helped.

Good Luck,
BC
