Fron what I understand, that trans is only in their medium duty line. The light duty line got a re-worked Dodge trans with a 6 speed....
Thats interesting....... In there commercial they said "Legendary Aisin transmission" Or somthing like that. And it had a picture of a 3/4 ton I belive in the back ground.
Well Dan I just went to dodge site and did the build your own thing, on the 1ton it didnt call it a AISIN tranny just a 68RFE (or somthing like that) then I did a 5500 and it called it a AISIN. So I guess you are right.
So then how is the re-worked dodge tranny holding up?

I was looking for where I read that when your 2nd post came in. It was a heavy rumor for-sure b4 the 6.7 came out, and I read that it wasn't to be the Aisin in a truck mag article -- just haven't found it yet. I saw the same thing: 68RFE in the Diesel Word shootout...
I know since Dodge re-worked the old trans in '04, they got a heck of a lot more reliable than prior models...
chiming in a bit late, been off the net for a few days, but *have* to post with a mom's perspective. i drive an '06 PSD super crew 4WD. i've had two gm and two ford trucks. i LURVE my truck. i'm 5'2", 130 lbs, and run a small home repair/reno business. when not full of tools and supplies, i haul kids, a labrador retriever, and a travel trailer. we sold our first ford truck ('89 250) to friends and it is still being used hard as a farm hauler and student driver vehicle.
cab - ford wins hands down. front seats? the power seats are awesome! the driver's seat goes up high enough that i can see over the hood and it tips forward so that i can comfortably reach the pedals. back seat? ridden back there all day while hubby was driving, felt fine. i can get three kids and the dog back there, its humougous. and the plastic door panels rock for cleaning off mud and whatever.
bed - a wash. i prefer the size of the ford's bed, but prefer the contours of the gm. also, the ford tailgate has a much bigger gap than the gm, lots of dust and water can come in, didn't need a seal on the gm.
engine- diesel waaaaay more expensive to maintain. however, last x-c trip cost us 2/3 the amount of fuel. and we do 6-8K miles a summer. also i felt much more comfortable pulling the trailer with a truck designed for hauling.
tranny - no complaints so far, shifts very smoothly, and i'm happier with the tow/haul shift points on the ford than the gm. the gm tow/haul -- engine sounded like it was going to explode before it shifted.
i had test driven both and almost bought the dodge mega cab but left the paperwork on the table and went to buy the f350, IMO the ford was hands down the best i liked the dodge but loved the ford, didnt like the ride quality of the ram nor the looks, the SD is way more superior in everyway!
I had to change trucks in January. We shopped Ford and Dodge and I even tried to look at a GMC. Needed something to pull a 12000lbs 5th wheel. After driving about 6 different Dodge 2500 and 3500 I ended up with a 2006 F250 PSD 4x4, crewcab. It has more room, more comfortable to drive, quieter on the road and hauls my 5th wheel like it is not back there. I have to check the rear view mirror to be sure I still have it. On top of this it was several thousand $ cheaper

Well, it finally bite me where it hurts, again.Thought the crank seal let go, but that would have been too easy. Nope has to be worse...The timming cover dowel fell out and cracked my timing cover in half. Looks like the Exxon Veldeez was in my driveway. This truck has eat'n every last spare dollar I have made this year. I might have to get rid of it just to pay off the bill. Just ridiculous.
Kinda thinking of getting rid of it for something cheaper, but it was paid for, and tows my 24' enclosed like its not there. Milage isn't bad, but the repair bills this year were outragous. You would think hey would want the trucks to last better than they do, that's why I am so PO'd. Here you spend the extra coin for a 3500 with the diesel, and the ball joints, shocks, control arms, tail gate straps, trac bar, and all the other parts are the same size as the 3/4 ton trucks or even the 1/2 ton trucks. Not to mention the crappy 16 E rated tires available. I had to switch to 19.5's just to get rid of the dreaded towing wiggle...Thes designers build the trucks, and test them when there new, say it feels great driving it and move on to the next project without learning anything. They don't push them anywhere near as hard as we do for as long as we do. WHY CAN'T THEY BUILD A TRUCK THAT LASTS!!!!
Sorry, had to vent. I don't want to sell my hot rod to pay the repair bill for this pos. What is a good replacement for under 20k?
