Here is another. More expensive but looks like it has more with the kit. Even one for us 460 owners with the E40D. $2,049.95 for the kit for my truck. Ouch

Thats what I was afraid of, are the gauge clusters different? cause that would suck, the 96 is an xl bare bones fleet and my 95 is a fully loaded xlt with the tach.
If it comes down to that then Im not gonna do the swap, just too much work for so little gain.

I wonder tho, didnt someyone say that california models came with maf?

The gauge cluster should in yours should not be a problem. I pulled the cluster w/tach out of a '97 to pu into my '96.

i have a 1989 ford f150 single cab with a 351w, i have plans on doing some mods for this truck which include a full ford explorer intake manifold swap and i would like to do a maf conversion. can some body give me a full parts list as to what would be the best possible componets to look for like what computer and harneses. i would also like to use tweeker or a similar program with this system.

i did a MAF on my mustang back when because i heavily modified it. If i want more power out of my 90 ford f150 it may be cheaper to do a 351 conversion. What are you guys opinions on that ? MAF to modify or just sawap 351

My opinion is to do both. That way if you go to improve later the MAF setup will be more giving tuning wise.

What engine do you have right now?

I swapped my 1993 F150 from 302 to 351w. It was easy, i also had a donor truck of the same year and same transmission. It was an F250 though.

The explorer intake will require a rare 5.8 specific lower which may cost you as much as a complete intake from some other suppliers unless you stumble across one dirt cheap. Before doing anything you should outline your goals and budget.. both short term and long, going mass air is a good idea and provides lots of room for future upgrades, but you may or may not need the tweecer right away depending what you do to the motor. The 5.0 mustang computers are all supported by tuners, and these cars as well as later 5.0 and 5.8 trucks have the wiring you need.

There is a company that makes manifold spacers for various ford combination heads/intakes including 302 intake to 351W engine that might make this a more palitable use. If I can't find a used unmodified 5.8 spec gt-40 lower for less than $300 I may "Explore" this route when I eventually convert.

Yes I have heard of these but never seen one in person. With the low cost products available in the aftermarket now though you really have to find a spanking deal to make it worth your while. The Typhoon for example is available for $350.. both upper and lower. eBay Motors: 86-95 Mustang 5.8 351W TYPHOON Upper Lower Intake Kit (item 260318519585 end time Nov-26-08 08:15:55 PST)
