Getting ready to do this setup on my 88 once warmer weather arrives again. Got a complete underhood harness, Computer (X3Z code) and the matching MAF (all came out of a 93 Cobra). Also plan on changing out my camshaft (Melling MTF-5), adding 24lb injectors, and going to an Explorer style intake w/a 1/2 or 1" spacer between the upper and lower plenums. Plan on documenting everything done wth text and photos for future reference.
I thinks it great having this site. The tech articles can be very useful. What you don,t need now sometimes you will need later. The more Tech info the better.
I have decided that if I can not get to Cali and find a 7.5L F-250 with an E40D to pull parts off of I am going to make my own harness. I have a couple of questions though.
1: I have the wiring diagram for a '96 F-250 with the 7.5L but it calls for three O2 sensors. Left, right, and rear. Does anyone know where these are located in the exhaust so that I can design my exhaust right?
2: Does anybody know what computer is used on the 7.5L maf F-250 with E40D?
That would be Gold information indeed.
Can you share the wiring diagram? I'm very interested in it.
I'd like to make my own harness also.
(however: if i can order it somewhere, that would probably my first choice.. )
Thanks!!

Question 1: Left & Right O2 Sensors are on the inside of the elbows coming off the exhaust manifolds as it shoots to the tee and then on to the Cat. The third sensor screws into the back of the Cat as the exhaust exits the Cat.
Question 2: I would have to open up the kickpanel and pull it out to see what the number is. I have never paid attention. So when I am in there I will let you know. But I have a manual trans so the computer would be different!
Cali-Emmisions MAF trucks have no smog pump and no air tubes so you don't have to mess with that crap!
Sorry for the delay in responding. As soon as I get the chance to dig out my scanner I will scan the diagram and post it.
For building the harness Painless wiring has a complete harness for the Mustang mentioned earlier in this thread that would be a good starting point for building a harness for a 460 E40D harness. For over $700 though...
One thing to note about the Cali 460 is that it is OBD2 while the Federal is OBD1
Thanks for the tip on the smog pump.
Will the Cali 460 computer be able to be tuned with Tweecer or would it be better to get a 5.0 computer?

It's the $700 that makes me having interest in the scematics
When it would be about half of it, i'd consider a buy, but at $700, i definately want to make my own!...

Not sure, I have not investigated that far yet. I have made some mods to my truck and I know I am not fully getting the powergains available because of the limitations of the stock ECM. I need to find out how I can re-program it while not messing anything up for passing California Smog.
