SD to MAF Conversion - Write up?
So when you make your own harness additions, what do you guys do with the color coding on the wiring? It would be nice to continue with wires of the same color combo. I was thinking maybe get other harnesses from other salvage yard trucks/cars. Does anyone know of a source for the ford color coding wires or do you just wing it?
I am putting a '95 351W EFI SD from an F250 2w drive(had a manual tranny)
Using an AOD from a 91 grand marquis.
I am a firm believer in the salvage yard route first, then if all else fails go to the aftermarket.
I have been on fordfuelinjection.com. How reliable is the info on there?
My project is gonna be a COMPLETE wiring from one end to the other!
not looking forward to that much!
I am gonna bring the harness and computer inside( it's kinda nasty here today!) and see what there is. the computer and wiring came from the same donor truck. I think I am gonna stay with the SD but the MAF thought is certainly entertaining!
I am gonna need help with this one! I have been doing the research on and off for a few months now.

I don't know how most people do it, but the original ford colors usually have tracer colors in them & would be hard to find, so I just used all different colors and kept notes. You have the harness from the F250? Does it seperate from the engine to the underhood harness? My '89 did, & that made it nice. I just got a 6 pin connector from a donor at the junkyard, & added my additonal injector wires to it at each end, so it's still removeable.
If you have the harness, if you mount your computer closer than the original location, you should be able to get away with just shortening the OEM wires, I'd think.
I think the info on Ford Fuel Injection is good, I mainly used the book "Understanding & Modifying Ford Fuel Injection", By Probst, I think. It has wiring diagrams in the back, & I already had it from my Mustang days.
Make sure your ECM grounds are good, and also the power source is adequate.

Yes I do have the harness from the f250. most of it is okay but one guy at the salvage yard did some cutting so I dont know where that will put me. I had to do some cuttin myself under the dash cause I just wanted to get like the fuse box, and other component type pieces then I could study them for wiring, fit etc.
the cutting that was done on the engine were a smaller part of harness. I think alt. wiring was one cut.
The main harness though, I pulled myself, I have the power dist. box too. and yes it does come apart at the firewall.
I have been studying all day.
So the '95 f250, 5.8L, it had a manual tranny behind it
2 wheel drive, speed density not maf
I was looking at my list from Ford Fuel Injection and pin #43 is blank according to the site and haynes book( I know the haynes book may be somwhat generic)
but my harness has a wire in the #43 spot?
both FFI and book agree to be not used. Any idea? probably not important now, but since I am here I will ask!

When I did the MAF conversion on my truck I used a mustang computer and sourced the additional wiring from a mustang harness. All the colors on the wiring then matched the computer wiring diagram.
Hey Cam I am considering a Mas Conversion I have a 95 f150 super cab 302 and e40d 2wd lifted on 35 12.50 15 and 4.56 gears, i need better mpg and looking for power and torque I was even considering a 351 and mass air as well I just need to keep it clean I live in california I am real good with wiring I have been a tech for 20+ years and know my way around diagrams so I am not afraid to re-wire the truck just need some wisdom if ya know what I mean I am a ford man just never worked for them 16 years with gm and now 7 with toyota .. let me know if you can help Thanks Drew...whippedoutmx@yahoo.com
Im in the middle of doing a maf conversion on my 89 F150 5.0l with a manual tranny but cant understand how the injector firing sequence should go, wat pins do I need to move around. I've used a 91 thunderbird ecm and maf and made my own harness for injectors and maf double checked all the wires and there all pinned right. I tried to swap injector pins for 3,5 and 4,7 to try and match the firing order but didnt work. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jamie
Thanks,
Jamie
It was missing really bad, i tested the maf and it was good, had power and ground, signal voltage went up and down smoothly with the throttle. But wen i plug it in it ran worse than wen it was unplugged. When i managed to get it to idle i was unplugging injectors to see what cyl. were missing and it was cyl. 4 and 8. I did alot of research on the conversion, paid the $20 for the ford muscle site and pinned everything according to the diagrams, but couldnt get the engine to stop missing.
Thanks,
Jamie

What is the box code on the PCM you have? Do you have the system setup for dual or single O2 sensor? If duals you're going to have to change it to a single, just disconnect one sensor and jumper the other one to both inputs on the PCM. The reason you have to do this stems from the difference in firing orders which causes the computer to fight itself with fuel requirements because the actual injector pulses no longer match the programmed firing order and therefore the O2 sensors readings are also out of sync. This results in some cylinders being fueled lean while others are rich and overall the motor doesn't run well.
If the box code is three digit code(like A9L) I have an H2M all my parts are out of a 91 thunderbird. I have a single O2 sensor taht i spliced to go to the inputs for the right and left O2 senor pins. I read on a post somewhere that a guy just swapped in a cam out of a 351 with his conversion, to take care of the firing order. That seems like a lot more work but seems better than switching injectors from banks to match my firing order.
