Well I made up my mind the Headache is going to be parted out at least the motor, clutch, and maybe some other pieces. I found a diesel that will be showing up today time to start all over again.

Interesting. What kind of diesel did you find?? As popular as diesel pulling is getting I think it would really be something interesting to get into. I'm thinking the costs are a little more, but it is something new with opportunities to try whatever you want.

Are you going to be around on Sunday to go to the NPPA meeting?? I think I am going to go out to Chris' a little beforehand and do some mingling. Maybe I could swing by after the meeting and see what you all have to get rid of??

Thats part of the reason I wanted to switch over to diesel is that it's new in comparison with the gas side. That and I know more about a diesel motor what it takes compared to a gas. Honestly I was lost with the alcohol set up granted the guy that does alot of my motor work knows anything and everthing about alcohol but I like to have some thought involved with the build and use some of my own ideas. And with diesels just starting to get hot around here I can get in on the ground floor (somewhat) espescially in the power pullers. Any way I found a 94 dodge reg cab that was wrecked nothing major but what I was looking for I really don't care what it looks like at the start anyway. And yes you can spend alot of money on building one but you can also hit the 450hp 800ftlb real easy and for less than you think. It's some of the Big Boys out east that have 30,000 + in there motors but if you look at the gas side you can drop plenty in those to. Anyway what time are you going out to Chris's house I may meet you there.

Yes, I agree a diesel would definately be an "easy" way to get rolling with the NPPA. If they want to continue promoting a Smokers class, they need to get some more trucks. Plus, you can always go back to your local pulling roots. Nearly all of the local pulls now feature a modified diesel class. I've watched the diesel trucks pull in the Lucas Oil Pulling Series both on the Outdoor Channel and ESPN 2. Those trucks look and run awesome. They really look bad A$% with the Dick Cepek's on them. Maybe the club will allow bar tires next year??

If Chris does not have anything going on Sunday morning, which I'm sure that he probably doesn't, I'm going to head over there around 10:30 or 11. Just a little info-do you plan on selling the entire truck or are you going to keep the truck and sell engine parts?? Also, what heads did the alky engine have on it?? I thought at one point you told me it had Dove heads, I was wondering which ones??

Good to see you again Jeff. Sorry we didn't get to meet The Freak.

There seemed to be quite a few people there. Many new diesel guys and some others that I had never seen before. I hear that there are two new trucks for our class being built but possibly one moving up a class. It could prove to be an interesting year.

We had only 2 minimal rule changes. We talked about several things but we felt it best to not change anything big as this is an entry level class (or at least as close as you will get). It appeared that the diesel guys were doing a lot of changes and I am sure that Jeff can give some updates on that. The 4x4 guys seemed to have a lot of talk. I think those are the two classes that changed the most. The rules will be updated on the web soon (I hope).

We found a motor that we will be buying for a lot cheaper then we could build. We don’t expect to win but should definitely compete with it. It is the motor that got Hookin 2nd in West Point last year. Since we have to come up with a manual trans and a dual disk clutch going this route will help the wallet a bit.

Yeah, sorry I didn't get a chance to talk to you guys. I was sitting at the center table that Chris Hajek was sitting at. I was the one that brought up the fact that Fremont is considering having a pull this year.

There was alot of discussion in the Street Modified Four-Wheel Drive class, and I feel there was some ground gained and some issues that were cleared up. The main thing we were trying to accomplish was trying to make the class more appealing to entry level trucks. Some of the rules that were changed were:

1.) Trucks can run either bar/cepek tires with a footprint no bigger than 31x15.50x15 or non-cut street tires with a tire size no bigger than 33x12.50. If a truck is pulling with street tires they will be allowed to run an extra 200 in each weight class. Hopefully, this will encourage people that are currently pulling street tire classes to come pull with the club whenever possible.

2.) The cylinder head issue was cleared up in the class. The rules now state that a puller can run any aftermarket or factory production cast iron head, as well as, any factory production aluminum head. The rules also changed to allow a tunnel ram intake, but it is still limited to a single four barrel carburetor-this rule was brought up and changed so I would not get pounced on as soon as I showed up with my truck running one.

I'm probably missing a few little changes, but the above two are the main things that changed.

Congratulations on the purchase of your engine. It seemed like it ran very good in Hookin'. Did you purchase the complete engine or do you have to purchase anything to finish it up??

With the PBR hat??? If so I didn't realize that they still sold that stuff. LOL..

I was in the back corner just to your right. I was the tall fat guy with the JD hat and Bryan was with me and he is the short fat guy with the bushy beard. We were a couple of tables behind Joe Smeal and Devin.

All we have to add is headers and a distributor. Other then that it is complete. We will make at least a few passes to see how it reacts to our truck and then we may look at some changes or we may just leave it alone and have some fun.

You guys know of any good deals on clutches?

Hey what's wrong with PBR Jamie and I finished off everything Tinkertoy had in his fridge before the meeting!

I sent you an email with some pics of the headers and clutch that I'm selling so let me know what you think. Also what kind of manual are you looking for I have a spare NP435 out of a 76 sitting here.
Here are the gear ratios
<TABLE cols=2 width="100%" border=1><TBODY><TR><TD bgColor=#ccffff>FORD NP435</TD><TD bgColor=#ccffff>6.69,3.34,1.79,1.00</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
If you know what wheel speed you want then go to the website 4lo and enter your specs it will tell you what your wheel speed is based on diff, tire size and tranny ratio. I have used this site a lot for research.

As for the Diesel rules what can you say there are none?! Since you have to have been a member last year to vote we were left with three guys to vote and one of them I won't say who refused to accept the changes that were proposed and threatened to drop out if the changes were made. Unfortunately with some of the NPPA members thinking that they should eliminate the smokers if they don't get some more trucks the other two guys were in a bad position. So you can run bar tires, drop box's, and twins in the entry level class. This will be like have Joe and Ferral pull against the entry level 4 x 4 class. But what can you do. There are a bunch of guys that are looking to join including myself so that will help but I don't think the guys that showed up from the outside understand what the power pullers are all about they just want to pull and couldn't understand some of the safety rules and some of the rules that were in place like no duallies no flatbeds no No2. But the class does need to grow so if they can meet the safety part and the rules they will be allowed to pull. They are going to put a limit of new trucks so that it doesn't get out of hand probably around 8 or 10. One of the new safety rules is that they have to have an air shut off. Most of these trucks are street trucks that are daily drivers so it would be difficult to put on and tear off all the equipment between pulls. My only concern will be that they just show up here and there and show up at the pull and expect to be TI'd so they can compete that will be a pain for the guys TTi'ing. Anyway I'm going to join even though I won't have much of a chance but I'm just out to have fun and hang out with some friends at a pull that will have the same rules every time. BTW Jamie it's good to see that you also joined looking forward to a fun year.

Yeah, that was pretty much my thinking on joining also. I'm not sure how good I will do, but at least I have the opportunity to go to some additional pulls that normally do not host a street pull. I think I'm going to find another set of street tires in addition to the ones that I already have. I also have some bar tires our at Chris' that are already mounted that I will probably do some cutting on. I'll give each set a try and see which ones I and The Wood like the most. At least with the option of street tires, you don't have to worry about switching tires back and forth if you end up going to some street pulls. Oh well, it's all for fun so we'll just have to give it a shot and see what happens.

Hey Jeff, I was wondering when you thought you would have your alky motor torn apart?? Whenever would work best for you, I could swing out and pick up those heads. I would also like to take a look at whatever else you are getting rid of. If you wanted to, shoot me an email with your phone number, or I could always get it from Chris. I can give you a call closer to the weekend and see what you are up to. I guess it depends on how crazy the weather gets. Might need some wine or schnapps.

Nothing wrong with PBR. I just didn't know that they even still made it. Some of their diesel rules don't really make sense to me but it is up to them. I sent you an email back. I will check on the clutch to see if it will work.

Jamie,

I was out working in the shop last night and was able to get the motor torn down so the heads are off. Give me a holler sometime we can have a brew or two and sort through some parts.
