Amanda and Cash are doing good. It was nice to be back home last night. She may try to sneak over to the pull this weekend. At least she doesn't have far to go. The pull is less than five minutes from our place.
Hopefully you can get your parts. I think it should be a pretty good pull. I'm supposed to go look at the track this afternoon, but with being out from work the last day and half, I don't think I am going to be able to.
Chris shot me an email. He got his truck fired up last night so he's waiting to hear from Al regarding when he can get it TI'd.
Yes, I think if I put a driveshaft with a smaller tube on, I will have the clearance. I may have to take it off my 77 if the one in the pasture does not work. I'm hoping to get out there tomorrow and see what I have to do. I'm really anxious for this pull to see how things go. Most likely I will finish at the bottom of my class, but at least I will have an idea of what I need to do to start getting things adjusted. However, if I can get hooked in the heavy class I think the motor has a good chance to give them a run for their money.
Good to hear that everyone is doing OK. Yes you definitely have some motor. You just need to get it hooked and you will be fine. You may or may not win or give them a run for their money but at least you are out there trying. You won’t be any worse off then what we were last year.
Can someone post the schedule for upcoming pulls? I'd like to try and get out to one, maybe some others would too... Maybe put it in a new thread since this one is pretty specific to the technical stuff.
The freak took care of it for ya and I put the schedule up too. You can find that info from the NPPA's site or my site. You will have to make it out this year Rob. The truck runs a lot better then last year.
Well, I tried to replace my driveshaft last night. All of the ones I had were too long. I took two to the machine shop this morning. They are supposed to have a new shaft for me @ 3. I hope it works. Are you guys going to be ready to go?? I'm going to be burning around again tonight.
Also, you should be fine with your cooler. Actually, you can have beer in the pits because the pits are on public land. You can't take beer out of the pull into the pits or vice versu. I think the setup should be pretty good. It's going to be a hot SOB though.
Nope we aren't ready yet. We too will be working tonight and probably in the morning to try and be ready. Hopefully things will go well for all of us. Yes it sounds like it will be a hot one.
So how did you guys pan out on Sat?? I didn't get to see your second run. I was busy running around trying to get what local guys there were there paid.
I had a couple of issues with mine. 1. I ended up with a slight miss on the driver's side bank. Didn't really want to run it anymore until we figured out what it is. We'll have to pull the plugs and the valve cover and see how serious it is. Hopefully not. 2. I lose fuel pressure when I crank the truck over. Right now, the fuel pump is wired to the switch. When the switch is on, I have the right pressure, but when I crank it to start it, the pressure goes down to zero. I'm going to put the pump on a toggle switch and see if that helps.
I think this is the guy's name. Kenton Picker?? Is that the guy you were talking about with the Chevy?? If so, I talk to him quite often at the pulls. I know he had mentioned that he had a lot of body work done on the truck.
Yep that is Picker. He is a good guy. I know he has been pulling for a long time but didn’t think he would know quite so many people that we pull with. Yes I don’t even like to go into his shop because I don’t want to be the first to scratch/dent/ding that truck. If he isn’t pulling it he should take it to car shows. LOL. He is now hoping to be done by Malvern but who knows. I feel bad for having him help us when he wants to be out there so bad and can’t be.
I was wondering why you didn’t come around for another hook. The first one seemed pretty good but the motor didn’t sound quite the same as Craig but still very good. First hook was pretty good considering I was so nervous I let the clutch out about 20’ out of the hole. I feathered it and ended up doing OK. Second hook I tried to come out harder and got to bouncing so bad that I bounced off the roof. I was trying to stop but with each bounce I kept hitting the throttle and clutch. I managed to get it stopped at 74’ so they towed me back and I rehooked but I was a little gun shy and didn’t have enough R’s coming out and only ended up with 240’ish (if I heard right). I will post video’s later this morning. Needless to say we now have a 5 point seat belt so hopefully that won’t happen again. I think we ended up 4th in light and 5th in heavy.
Yeah, I wasn't turning near the RPM's I was in Craig, but nobody in the 4wd's were. The sled was heavy from the start and the tires were really hooking up. I talked to Robyn and Farrel and both of them agreed that it was rough going. At least I know if I get somewhere that I can't really buzz the motor, it keeps the torque up. I think the street tires would have worked well on that track, but it's hard to say. 500 more RPM's out of the hole would have helped also. It seemed like in the heavy class of the 4wd's they seemed to let the trucks run a little more. All in all, I was very happy with the 2nd place finish. Like I said hopefully nothing is hurt too bad!!
I thought you guys did very well. A few more pulls and you'll really have the hang of driving it. How many RPM's did you try to come out at the 2nd pull?? I think you guys finished 3rd and 4th right??
Looks pretty good!! Wish I could hear it, I got a new computer at work last week, and I don't have any speakers. I may have to rig something up. Did you get the whole pull taped?? I was going to call my sister and tell her to pick up her video camera from our place, but I completely forgot so unfortunately I did not get it taped.
Are you guys good to go for Humboldt, or do you have to make some changes?? I think I'm going to work on mine some tomorrow. Hopefully, I should be ready by then. It's going to be a long drive this time.
After the pogo stick ride we are gonna look it over pretty good to make sure no welds cracked. We are going a 5 point belt so that will have to be fabbed up. Who knows what else will happen between now and then. I gotta start saving some money for fuel down there. I wish Kenton would get his truck done and we could find one long trailer to put both trucks on and share the fuel expense. How long is that Gooseneck that you have been hauling 2 trucks on?
Sorry, I didn't tape the whole pull. I just had the wife use our digi cam to record my hooks. I didn't even think of you, Sorry. She won't be at all of them but when she is I will tell her to record you too.
The trailer that we have been using is a 42 footer. It works pretty good. Once you get it rolling, it really doesn't pull that bad down the road. I think John and I are both going to try and head down to Humboldt so we will probably be pulling both of them down there. Fuel will be expensive!!
No problem with the taping. I'm sure I will find someone that taped it all.
