Nope the tires are brand new. I know some of the big boys have it done and wouldn't probably be necessary for us but it is pretty cheap in the grand scheme of things and if it helps keep them in good shape it will be a good investment. The guy that we bought them from and cut them really recommended it. He does it to all of his pulling tires. I am told that there a few different ways to do this but ours are heat treated. It should help from the bars rolling back, wear on the bars, and them ripping off.
I know what you mean. I think we are going early to Fremont because after Wahoo last year I bet there will be a ton of people there early for the local pulls that Eddie or whoever is putting on. Funny you mention that as I about said something in my last post. Yesterday I noticed that my MS Outlook Calendar now shows Craig in my upcoming events. Kinda has me worried now. Getting down to the wire.
That definately makes sense. If it is cheap, you might as well do it and save the expensive tire. I still need to do some work on my bar tires. Who knows, I probably will never run them.
I'm thinking there should be a pretty good turnout for the Fremont pull. The local stuff is fun to watch. There are some pretty bad trucks that pull in that stuff. If I don't make the Test and Tune, I wouldn't mind running in the Modified Street class.
I'm heading up the Gas Classes, and I'm letting Eddie handle the Diesel Classes since he knows alot more about those trucks than I do. I'm hoping everything goes off without a hitch, but I'm sure it will be hectic. I hope it turns out to be a good event for the Chamber of Commerce. Hopefully it can become a yearly event. Their deal is though they do it more for the city. I know they lost a few sponsors this year because it was not a tractor pull. They were talking about maybe alternating each year between tractors and trucks. I'm hoping this turns out good enough for them that they stick with it. They are already money ahead of when they had the Bush Pullers due to cheaper contracts. They will also make money from local puller entry fees. I also think they will have more spectators with the local pullers and the association being comprised of more local pullers.
How are the pits there? That was the main issue for us last year at Wahoo. We got there several hours early as Bryan's dad wanted to run in the stock pull. We had to park out in the back in the blazing sun while all of the stock trucks parked close to the track in the shade. The worst part was the lighting after it got dark and all of the people back there (not pullers). We don't have head lights and we ended up with Bryan walking in front of me with a flash light. I actually saw people buying pit passes and parking back there. I would like to get there early to get setup but also watch the stock trucks too.
Did any of you guys go to Eddies to dyno? I know one of the years Chris took his truck and the think Bryan B might have had his truck there too.
I'm not sure what the pits look like. I have never been to a pull down there. From what I heard, there is quite a bit of room. I know there is not going to be pit passes so it should be just pullers in the pits. I want to get down there sometime during the week before and see how they are going to have it layed out. I want to figure out where it is going to work best to put the portable scale for the local pullers. I'm going to have them pull over the scale before they drive onto the track.
No, I did not make it down to the dyno days. I saw some photos on a chat site though. From what I saw a little over 600 hp was the high. I think there was a pretty good crowd. Last time I checked Widick's did not have any updates on their website.
Well after lots of drinking, cussing, and yelling I think we have our clutch about done. We ended up not even using anything stock and fabricating the whole things. Just need to finish up the pedal tonight.
Tires had to go back in the oven and I am supposed to call about them this morning. Hopefully we can get them next week and we can about finish this then up on Memorial Day weekend.
Any word on your carb? How is Jeffs smoker coming?
Yeah, when you have to "make" stuff, it can take up a lot of time. One thing about a pulling truck there are not too many things that just bolt up.
Sounds like you are having about as much luck with your tires as I am with my carburetor. I called Jegs yesterday. Now they are telling me that they contacted Barry Grant, and it is going to be AT LEAST another two weeks. If I get time today, I am going to call Barry Grant and see if I can get some more info. I already have the fuel lines so I'm kind of skeptical about cancelling the order, plus I've already waited this long. However, I need a carb. I could get a Dominator shipped out right away so I may go that way. Also, Chris has a dominator that I could borrow till my carburetor shows up, but I would really like to get it tuned with what is going to be on there. I'm starting to get frustated with my lack of productivity.
I haven't heard anything about Jeff's truck. I was kind of curious if they had their baby yet.
Yes very little is just bolt up on a pulling truck. It wasn’t so much the making but the making several times when it didn’t work the first time… Well I am told or tires are as hard as they are gonna get. They are checking on shipping now. Hopefully that doesn’t kill me.
Have you checked to see if Speedway down in Lincoln has your carb or can get it any sooner? I know that they have some demons just not sure if they have any that big in stock. Might be worth a call if you haven’t.
Well, that's good that your tires are done. I would think shipping should be around $50-$75. Not for sure though.
Before I had ordered the carburetor, I had looked at Speedway's website, but the biggest carb I saw them carrying was the Race Demon. I may just give them a call to check it out.
I was going to ask you what flywheel and clutch setup did you guys go with?? How much more do you guys have left before you are ready to fire it up??
Well I just found out it will be $108.81 but that is wheels and tires and they should be here either tomorrow or Monday. I am guessing on Monday. We bought Rich’s double disk and a brand new Hayes flywheel. I think they said the clutch was new last year. We still have a bunch of little stuff (wiring, batteries, dist, fuel pump, carb). Hopefully this weekend will be productive and then we can hear it next week.
Doesn’t hurt to call them. They have a lot of stuff and if nothing else maybe they could get you one ordered and be a little quicker.
The one I ordered is a 1095 King Demon with Annular Boosters. I called Speedway, and they said they only deal with the Speed and Race Demons. I called Barry Grant, and the guy was a total d@#$. He said that they only give out information to vendors with an account number so I didn't gain anything there.
I just called Jegs, and they said that Barry Grant is shipping it to them on Sat. so I should have it next week. Of course, I have heard this before so who knows. I'm going to call again after lunch and see if I get the same info. Also, I'm going to see if it would be possible to have Barry Grant ship it directly to me.
Might also check with these guys... CNC Motorsports in South Dakota. They sell alot on Ebay but I had to get a TC from them last year and they treated me pretty good. Let me know what you find out.
Looking around yesterday, I saw that they were a Demon dealer. I looked on ebay, and CNC has two 1090 King Demons. It doesn't say, but I am assuming they are new. I will wait until Monday or Tuesday to see if Jegs comes up with anything. If not, I will give them a call and see what they could do for me. Thanks for the info.
Not nearly as productive of a weekend as we wanted but we did make progress. After driving around for 6 hours Saturday morning we finally got to work on things. The clutch is finished except pulling a bracket and inspection plate off to put a gasket in. The new custom made pedal works much better! Mounted the tach on the dash (not wired yet though). Got one of the weight racks done and the fuel cell & battery boxes frame done. Need to do another weight rack and then that stuff and the box floor can be spray painted.
We left Sat. morning hoping to fill an Argon and Acetylene. 4 places later we finally found someone open. We then wanted to get some tire screws. After a couple of hardware stores we gave up and went to a race shop. They only had 1 kit but the second will be here Tuesday. We needed some 2 gauge battery cable. After several places we finally found that TSC has 25' rolls for $36.00 but the one in Council Bluffs can't find the roll that they should have but the Omaha store that we drove by 3 times an hour ago does... Earlier we stopped by NAPA and they could get us a 25' roll for $98.00. (That is right, $60.00 more per roll). I had to fix some servers early yesterday morning so I drove out to 79th & L and got the battery cable from TSC.
Tires should be here tomorrow or Wed. and then we have to drill the rims and screw them. Then we can mount them and hopefully get some new pics.
My weekend was not very productive either. I worked Sat. morning and went to an auction for awhile Sat. afternoon. Only to watch two 69 Chargers go for way too much money. After that, I got my rear driveshaft loop built. I mounted my fan on my radiator and got that put back in. I got my hood cut for my larger aircleaner (not sure if I needed to do that seeing as my carburetor is still not here!!) I started to clean up some of my wiring, and get things looking a little less clustered. I'm hoping to head back out there one day this week, but as the due date draws nearer, it's getting more difficult for me to get away. Forgot the camera at home so I didn't get any photos taken again. I should get some this week though.
I talked to Jeff at the auction. He and Janelle had a baby girl last Monday. From what I heard, everything is going well. He said he has been waiting for parts also. He said the engine is together, and he is ready to put it and fire it up. He is still hoping on having it ready for TI.
