broke,
600hp would get you a very good 1/4 time but you arent factoring in that you are driving a 3500lb bread box. Wind drag and weight play a huge part in sub 12sec 1/4 times. At some point drag will over come your horsepower gears traction etc. Even if you gut everything you still have a rather flat front grill and rather flat windshield. 500hp will get you in the 12s in say a Mustang but I dont know how doable a 77 F150 turning 11.something 1/4 with a 300 is. If you do YOU WONT RUN ON PUMP GAS AND WONT BE STREET LEGAL!
Colonel what do you run in the 1/4 with your slingshot dragster?
I hate sounding like the bad guy~
Broke,
if noone answers your leaf spring quesion I will let you know tomorrow.

i can run up to 93 octane from the pump but thats it...if u block off the grille with like cardboard and tape it can improve your time correct? oh and remember its an F-100 not F-150(just wanted to make that clear even though there really is no big difference)
Broke,
all the cardboard would do is block the radiator and make you overheat. Plus, what do you think cardboard will do at 125mph? This isnt a nascar where you tape the nose to get extra down force.
ladder bars or bags, either one, as long as it's one or the other, but the idea is to prevent axle wrap. Also, independent rear suspension's theory is that either tire independently sticks itself to the pavement thus improving traction over a live axle set-up...i.e. slipping a tire as the car flexes under torque which lifts one rear tire off the ground ever-so-slightly....independent rear doesn't slip. hope I make sense here.
well, I know on street cars and hot rods they use airbags for good handling and traction. IDK if yours is 4wd or not, but I'm guessing its not. You could always go with a 4 link rear with coils or bags, or stick with leaves and get trac bars. My truck is 4x4, and I'm going to be using these most likely http://www.broncograveyard.com/bronco/i-33640_superlift_super-trac_traction_bars.htm I'm not really big on street trucks, I'm more into muddin and tow ability personally, so this sort of thing isn't exactly my forte lol. I think I'm gonna call the custom cycle shop here in town that is going to be powder coating my wheels and see about getting the intake chromed. I will be using the Hedman Headers most likely (they are a pretty good deal on Summit), and just wrap them really good with heat tape. Just imagine it though, all SS braided hoses and lines, chrome intake and carb, with the Clifford valve cover, chrome crank case breathers and air cleaner, and my block painted John Deere Green... mmmm, its gonna be beautiful, and powerful. Once I get my lift kit I am going to start taking pictures of the truck stock, and then after each upgrade or change I make; try to sort of make a scrapbook.
What kind of ignition system are y'all using? I've only been able to find the DUI on Ford Six Parts, and the Mallory on Summit. I think I am going to use the DUI because its got an integrated coil and tach drive, you don't need an ignition box, and its about the same price. Has anyone found a Cloyes timing set for less than $119? If so, let me know please, thanks.
If you can't get a 77 f100 in the 12's on 500 hp you should set fire to it. My Lightning makes 370 at the wheels, about 450 at the flywheel. It's been 13.1@104 at 4960 lbs. If it was 1500 lbs lighter it would probably be well into the 11's.
Airbags are for lowriders. Stick with the leaf springs, they are a very good all around system. Add some slapper bars or Caltracs and you'll be set. One good thing about leaf springs is that they are fairly easy to modify. If you need an extra leaf you just add one to the stack. Another option might be the bars Rancho sells for 4x4 trucks. Lots of Lightning owners are running those well into the 10's.
well silver streak im trying to get my truck low on 20s or 22s but i plan on swapping wheels and tires for the strip...air bags are used on many street rods and can greatly improve handling and acceleration/traction...i also plan on scrapping my "Twin Traction Beams" for control arms..sorry to the original postee of this forum(i am not trying to steal it from you but i needed some info quick and i figured why not just post it here)anyhow im prolly goin to "Partsorama" this weekend (its a swap meet in PA if u didnt know) ill look for parts there
hey optikal, (or anybody for that matter) do you have stock cam and valvetrain specs? I need to know lift, duration, etc, etc. Don't worry Broke I ain't pissed, when a thread runs for 9 or so pages its bount to get off topic a few times.
i went to Partsarama today and ripped people off so bad...i got 1 perfect fender for $20 1 decent fender for $10 and a new grille with the inserts for 77 for $30 also in near perfect condition...i have the best luck ever i think i just saved $1000 in parts
