I'm no psychologist but one could argue that some folks exhaust great amounts of energy and money in an attempt to create some semblance of pride to compensate for that which they lack.
If it works or if it doesn't, either way let us know, so we can know what to do or what not to do. FWIW at work, our engineers with their computer programs, make designs they say will work. But until you start putting them together then you find the can't-do-its. for example,"I need to put a 1/2" weld in here?, but the gun won't fit!"
I don't think anyone here wanted to critisize anyone. I think they just wanted to state better alternatives, or let you realise what could go wrong.
I know I wouldn't want to be near that engine if it decided to blow up.
All, I'll suggest is this. It's your money, do what you want with what you want. Take safety precautions though, because I wouldn't want anyone to get hurt.
Not sure if it does or not off the top of my head, but most likely. My cousin builds computers for a living, so the program is childs play to him. He showed me everything, explaned it, left the room to go work on his Cordoba, and I was like uhh.... and ran back and got him sayin how the **** does this work again? So he ran the numbers for me, and I put the headers and new valve covers on his 318. The crappy thing is, he won't make me a copy because he is really big on not doing that, so I have to go get my own copy, and its like $30 or so.
i REALLY dont think DD2K is that accurate. id say 5% +/- which is a lot in terms of power output.
u REALLY need to have some hard numbers for headflow and cam specs to get uber accurate numbers. i have the program also and using stock cam specs, stock head flow specs from a carb'd 300 i came almost dead on to the EFI 300s spec. using those numbers i added headers, the cam im using now and came out with just under 200 hp and a hair over 300 torque.
will i see that? i doubt it but who knows. my buddy has the same cam, ported EFI manifolds and a massaged head and came up way off from my numbers...so i dunno.
my biggest gripe with someone wanting massive power outta an engine is the rpm is needs to spin to achieve it. the fella who wants 600 hp is gunna need to spin that WAY high (7,000 rpm?) to make that 600 hp and it wont be streetable.
same goes for u Rot, u think that ur proposed engine will be streetable and good for a daily driver? im being serious here. u think the .060 overbore is gunna live to daily driving and off-road abuse without over heating and all the fun stuff related to the block? that'd be my concern.
also, i dont think were critizing u on ur goal...we dont wanna see u be disappointed when ur 300 makes a dismal 100 more torque than stock and cant be driven on the street or idle in traffic.

See, now that I appriciate. That type of concern is very thoughtful. Seriously (not a jackass statement). As far as cooling the engine, I am going to be using a better radiator and an oil cooler, as well as a high volume oil pump. speaking of cooling, does anybody at all know of a high volume water pump for the 300? If not I may wind up using an electric water pump that flows more than stock. I really do think that, plus synthetic oil, coolant additives, and a lower temperature thermostat will be good enough. As far as longevity goes, I am not necessarily looking for the engine to last 300,000+ miles. After I build this truck, I'm going to do a 96 F-350 4x4 with a 12 Valve 5.9L Cummins. The way I look at it, as long as it all lasts until that project is done, I'm happy.

why dont you do a cheap build on your 300 and save for something really unique like a twin turbo cummings? Probably easier and cheaper than a 500ft lb 300.

Just a bit of advice I once got from an old engine builder --
When building a performance engine it's usually a bad idea to bore a modern engine's cylinders out any more than required to clean them up and then get them to the next standard piston size. The amount of displacement you can gain by going further is minimal (perhaps 1 or 2%) so it doesn't really add much to either the torque or the HP and you'll risk weakening the cylinder walls in the process. If you're going to be boosting the compression, adding boost, or squirting in big shots of nitrous oxide and pushing the engine hard, that can lead to some pretty spectacular (and therefore costly) engine failures. Furthermore there is no practical, cost efficient way to "unbore" a cylinder block.
Here's the actual displacements you'll see in a Ford 300 six from various overbores in increments of 0.010 inch. I've rounded the displacements to the nearest 0.1 inch.
So what you gain by going to 0.060 over as opposed to, say, 0.030 over is only about 1.5% of the engine's total displacement. That's not even close to being worth the risk.
I would agree with that statement shmoozo, but remember, the 300 isn't exactly a "modern engine". I've been debating on this for a while, the boring it .060" over, that is. I don't know, sometimes I think I may as well put a 351 in there... anyways DOES ANYBODY KNOW IF SOMEBODY MAKES A HIGH VOLUME WATER PUMP FOR THE 300??? I really need to know.

I dont think anyone does, if there is one, your best luck would be to head over to ford6 and ask, lots of racers over there, most of us are just torque guys....
